Role Title: Senior CNC & VMC Operator cum Programmer

Department: Manufacturing & Machining

Reporting To: Production Manager / Plant Head

Location: Plot No. E-38, Additional Patalganga MIDC, Panvel

Objective: To serve as the primary technical authority on the shop floor for CNC Turning and Vertical Machining Center (VMC) operations, ensuring all precision-machined marine closures, Camlock couplings, high-velocity P/V valves, and vent heads meet rigorous structural and dimensional standards for IRS/DNV/Class-approved marine applications.

1. Minimum Experience & Qualifications

- Education:
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or ITI in Machinist / Turner / CNC Trade.
- Formal certification in CAD/CAM programming (G-code, M-code, Fanuc/Siemens controls).
- Work Experience:
- 5 to 8 years of hands-on machining experience in a precision engineering machine shop.
- Minimum 2 to 3 years writing/editing programs and independently setting up both CNC Turning Centers and 3-Axis VMCs.
- Industry Background:
- Proven experience machining industrial valve components, pressure couplings, marine fittings, or precision flange bodies.
- Familiarity with machining various grades of stainless steel (SS304, SS316, SS316L), carbon steel, duplex alloys, gunmetal, and bronze.

2. Mandatory Technical Competencies

- CNC Lathe Operations (Ace Micromatic SJE 10 XL / Fanuc or Siemens Controls):
- Expert in independent component setup, soft-jaw boring, tool setting, geometry/wear offset correction, and surface finish optimization.
- Complete proficiency in 2-axis manual Part Programming (G-code/M-code) for threading (metric, BSP, NPT), grooving, contouring, and boring cycles.
- VMC Machining (BFW BMV50 3-Axis VMC):
- Independent setup and zero-datum setting on 3-axis machining centers.
- Tool setting, magazine loading, and tool offset management for 24-station Automatic Tool Changers (ATC).
- Machining precision valve seat faces, bolt pitch circle diameters (PCD), milling contours, pocketing, tapping,



and tight-tolerance bores (within +/- 0.015mm to +/-0.025mm).
- Blueprint Reading & GD&T; Literacy:
- Expert ability to interpret complex production and marine engineering drawings, including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T;) symbols, run-out, concentricity, perpendicularity, and Ra surface finish notations.
- Precision Inspection:
- Mastery of shop-floor inspection tools: external/internal micrometers, digital vernier calipers, bore gauges, depth micrometers, pitch micrometers, profile projectors, and GO/NO-GO plug/thread gauges.
- Cutting Tool Management:
- In-depth understanding of carbide insert grades, coatings, chip breakers, cutting speeds (Vc), and feeds (Fz tailored to stainless steel and tough alloy machining to minimize tool breakage and insert wear.

3. Detailed Scope of WorkA. Programming, Fixturing & Machine Operations

- Prepare and edit G-code and M-code programs directly on machine controllers or via CAM files for recurring marine products (flanges, vent disc seats, valve spindles, coupling bodies).
- Design, fabricate, and set up straightforward soft jaws, step jaws, faceplates, and modular fixtures to maximize machining stability and reduce cycle times.
- Run and cycle CNC Lathe and VMC operations systematically to meet daily production targets.

B. Quality Assurance & First-Piece Approval

- Execute mandatory First-Piece Inspection for every production batch; record critical dimensions on the Inspection Sheet before signing off for batch runs.
- Regularly verify in-process dimensions at scheduled intervals,



adjusting tool wear offsets immediately to eliminate dimensional drift during production runs.
- Maintain complete traceability for serialized batches subject to third-party witness inspection (IRS, DNV, Class surveyors).

C. Supervision & Machine Care

- Supervise and guide Junior CNC Operators and Helpers on safe workpiece loading, chip clearance, and basic operating practices.
- Enforce 5S discipline and good housekeeping around CNC turning and milling stations.
- Execute daily Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) routines: check coolant concentration/level, verify slideway lubrication pressure, inspect air pressure lines, and clean telescopic way wipers.
- Promptly log equipment anomalies (spindle vibration, abnormal axis noise, ATC indexing faults) and report them to the Maintenance Head.

4. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

- Machine Operating Efficiency / OEE: Maintain 85% scheduled run-time across assigned CNC and VMC workstations.
- Quality & Rejection Rate: Internal machine-level rework/scrap rate held strictly below 1.5%.
- Zero Customer/Surveyor Rejection: Zero batch rejections during internal or third-party Class surveyor dimensional audits.
- Tooling Economy: Optimize insert life and avoid tool breakages caused by improper feeds, speeds, or setup errors.

5. Compensation & Structure

- Designation: Senior CNC & VMC Operator cum Programmer
- Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent
- Compensation Range: ₹25,000/- to ₹35,000/- per month (commensurate with programming independence, multi-machine capability, and alloy machining track record).
- Reporting Hierarchy: Reports directly to the Production Manager / Plant Head.
