Position: Project Manager - Strawberry
Location: Uruli Kanchan, Pune, Maharashtra
Department: Protected Cultivation / Farm Operations
Reporting To: Director-R & D
Qualification: B.Sc./ M.Sc. Agriculture or Horticulture
Experience: 5+ years of relevant experience in strawberry cultivation/protected cultivation preferred
Employment Type: Full-time, On-site

1. Position Overview

The Strawberry Project Manager will be responsible for the overall planning, execution, technical management, and operational performance of the strawberry cultivation project under protected/polyhouse conditions.

The role will involve managing the complete crop cycle, including crop planning, planting, fertigation, irrigation, crop protection, manpower, harvesting, quality, inventory, cost control, infrastructure, documentation, and project performance.

The Project Manager will be accountable for achieving yield, quality, cost, productivity, and profitability targets set by management.

2. Key Responsibilities

A. Project Planning & Crop Management

- Plan and execute the complete strawberry cultivation cycle from polyhouse preparation to harvesting.
- Prepare crop calendars, plantation schedules, activity plans, and production targets.
- Develop crop-stage-wise plans for irrigation, fertigation, nutrition, pruning, runner management, harvesting, and sanitation.
- Monitor crop growth, flowering, fruit setting, fruit development, and overall plant health.
- Ensure timely execution of all crop activities as per the approved crop calendar.

B. Fertigation & Irrigation Management

- Develop and implement appropriate irrigation and fertigation schedules based on crop stage and plant requirements.
- Monitor EC, pH, irrigation quantity, drainage, and nutrient availability.
- Monitor fertilizer consumption against approved standards.
- Identify and correct nutritional deficiencies, excesses, or imbalances.
- Ensure proper functioning and calibration of fertigation and irrigation systems.

C. Pest & Disease Management

- Conduct regular crop scouting and maintain pest and disease monitoring records.




- Identify and manage major strawberry pests and diseases.
- Develop and implement suitable Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practices.
- Plan and supervise pesticide, fungicide, biological, and other crop protection applications as approved.
- Ensure compliance with safety procedures, PPE requirements, dosage, application methods, and applicable pre-harvest intervals.
- Take immediate corrective action in case of pest/disease outbreaks.

D. Yield & Quality Management

- Set and monitor block-wise and crop-cycle-wise yield targets.
- Monitor actual yield against planned targets.
- Improve Grade A and marketable fruit percentage.
- Monitor fruit size, colour, firmness, appearance, maturity, and other defined quality parameters.
- Identify causes of yield reduction, poor fruit quality, rejection, or wastage and implement corrective measures.
- Maintain records of harvested, graded, rejected, and dispatched produce.

E. Manpower & Team Management

- Plan manpower requirements according to crop stage and operational workload.
- Supervise Farm Executives, Supervisors, and farm labour.
- Allocate daily tasks and monitor completion and productivity.
- Train workers on planting, pruning, runner fixing, harvesting, sanitation, spraying, and other crop activities.
- Monitor attendance, discipline, productivity, and work quality.
- Resolve day-to-day manpower and operational issues.

F. Polyhouse & Infrastructure Management

- Ensure proper functioning and maintenance of polyhouse structures and related systems.
- Monitor irrigation lines, pumps, filters, fertigation units, drip systems, ventilation, nets, and other infrastructure.
- Plan preventive maintenance and coordinate timely repair of equipment.




- Monitor breakdowns and minimize operational downtime.
- Ensure proper sanitation and hygiene inside and around the polyhouse.

G. Cost & Resource Management

- Prepare and monitor the project operating budget.
- Control expenditure on fertilizers, pesticides, labour, packaging, utilities, and other inputs.
- Monitor actual consumption against approved budgets and standards.
- Identify opportunities to reduce wastage and improve resource utilization.
- Monitor the overall cost of production and support management in improving project profitability.

H. Harvesting & Post-Harvest Management

- Plan harvesting according to crop maturity and market requirements.
- Ensure proper harvesting practices to minimize fruit damage.
- Supervise sorting, grading, packing, and handling activities.
- Monitor post-harvest losses and rejection.
- Coordinate with the concerned team for timely dispatch and delivery of produce.
- Ensure appropriate storage and handling conditions.

I. Inventory & Procurement Coordination

- Monitor availability of fertilizers, pesticides, packaging materials, planting material, and other critical inputs.
- Maintain minimum stock levels and raise requirements in advance.
- Coordinate with the Procurement team for timely availability of materials.
- Verify quantity and quality of received materials.
- Maintain accurate inventory records.

J. Documentation & MIS

- Maintain complete and accurate records of:
- Crop activities
- Irrigation and fertigation
- Fertilizer and chemical consumption
- Pest and disease observations
- Manpower and productivity
- Harvesting and yield
- Quality and rejection
- Inventory
- Equipment maintenance
- Cost of cultivation
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly project reports.
- Submit yield vs. target, cost, quality, crop health, and operational performance reports to management.
- Maintain all records required for audits and management review.

Pay: ₹35,000.00 - ₹50,000.00 per month
