Job Description
About Xnomous Systems
Xnomous is a deeptech robotics and unmanned systems engineering company specializing in indigenous, next-generation autonomous platforms. We design, build, and deploy multi-domain robotic solutions—ranging from Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGVs) and Micro UGVs to Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), Agri-bots, and specialized Defence Robotics.
Driven by cutting-edge R&D;, Xnomous integrates ruggedized mechanical structures, precision drive mechanisms, advanced payloads, and intelligent embedded systems to engineer mission-ready autonomous hardware for high-stakes defence, precision agriculture, surveillance, and industrial applications.
Role Overview
As a Mechanical Design Engineer (1–3 Years Experience), you will play a central hands-on role in developing physical architectures for our autonomous systems. You will collaborate closely with hardware, electrical, and autonomy teams to turn complex technical specifications into reliable, field-deployable, and manufacturable 3D designs that withstand severe environmental, thermal, and shock/vibration conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Unmanned Systems & Robotics CAD Packaging: Design and model 3D CAD parts, sub-assemblies, and complete architectures for UGVs, Micro UGVs, UAV structures, gimbal assemblies, waterproof sensor enclosures (LiDAR, cameras, IMUs), and agri-robotic mechanisms.
- Mechanism & Powertrain Design:
Design and analyze lightweight mechanical powertrains, gearboxes, track/wheel drive modules, steering systems, suspension linkages, and motor mounts.
- Manufacturing Drawings & GD&T;: Prepare detailed 2D engineering drawings with precise Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T; per ASME Y14.5), ensuring correct fits, stack-up analysis, and assembly repeatability.
- DFM / DFA Optimization: Design components optimized for CNC machining, sheet metal bending, carbon fiber/composite layups, injection molding, and rapid additive manufacturing (FDM/SLA/SLS).
- Structural & Environmental Validation (FEA): Perform stress, structural deformation, drop/impact, vibration, and basic thermal dissipation simulations for field and defence environments.
- Hands-on Prototyping & Field Integration: Assemble first-run prototypes, manage lab integration, fitment testing, IP-rated sealing (IP65/IP67), harness routing, and participate in field tests.
- Vendor Coordination & Sourcing: Coordinate with fabrication vendors, machine shops, and 3D printing partners for component inspection, tolerance verification, and BOM delivery.
- Engineering Documentation: Maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs), version control, Engineering Change Orders (ECOs),
and assembly standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- High first-pass yield with minimal post-machining rework and zero critical assembly interferences.
- Fast execution from concept sketches to validated CAD models and prototype builds.
- Effective weight reduction without compromising structural rigidity.
- Seamless packaging of avionics, batteries, motor controllers, antennas, and wire harnesses.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Education: B.E. / B.Tech / M.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automotive Engineering, or related technical discipline.
- Experience: 1 – 3 years of direct experience in mechanical design, enclosure packaging, robotics hardware, or precision electro-mechanical product design.
- CAD & CAE: High proficiency in SolidWorks, Fusion 360, PTC Creo, or Siemens NX. Experience with FEA tools (ANSYS, SolidWorks Simulation) is an added advantage.
- Manufacturing & GD&T;: Strong knowledge of GD&T; (ASME Y14.5), tolerance stack-ups, sheet metal bend allowances, machining tolerances, and materials (aluminum alloys, plastics, composites).
- Hands-On Skills: Practical experience in prototyping, shop/lab tools, torque specs, waterproofing/IP rating gaskets, and testing rigs.
Why Join Xnomous?
- Work directly on cutting-edge autonomous hardware, multi-axis robotics, and embedded systems.
- Fast-paced, high-ownership R&D; culture where designs transition from CAD to physical hardware rapidly.
- Collaborative environment alongside experienced mechatronics and systems engineers.
