About the Role
We are looking for an Environmental Scientist to join our environmental consultancy team working on mining and allied infrastructure projects. The candidate will be responsible for environmental data collection, impact assessment, GIS-based spatial analysis, Land Use/Land Cover (LU/LC) mapping, preparation of EIA/EMP documentation, and support for regulatory and statutory submissions.
The role is particularly suited to candidates with experience in mining-sector EIA studies, GIS applications, environmental baseline studies, and NABET-accredited consultancy requirements.
Key Responsibilities1. Environmental Impact Assessment – Mining Projects
- Assist in preparation of EIA/EMP reports for mining and associated projects.
- Undertake and interpret environmental baseline data covering air, water, soil, noise, ecology, land environment and socio-economic aspects.
- Assess potential environmental impacts associated with mining operations, including open-cast/underground mining, mineral handling, transportation and allied facilities.
- Assist in developing mitigation measures and environmental management plans.
- Support preparation of environmental monitoring programmes and compliance reports.
- Review and compile technical data received from laboratories, field teams and other project specialists.
2. GIS & Remote Sensing
- Develop and maintain GIS databases for environmental projects.
- Prepare thematic maps using ArcGIS/QGIS and other GIS/remote-sensing tools.
- Conduct spatial analysis for environmental sensitivity, drainage, settlements, forests, roads, water bodies, mining leases and other relevant features.
- Prepare maps required for EIA/EMP, mining plans, environmental clearance and regulatory submissions.
- Perform georeferencing, digitization, spatial analysis, map composition and coordinate-system/projection management.
- Analyse satellite imagery and other remote-sensing datasets for environmental assessments.
3. Land Use/Land Cover (LU/LC)
- Prepare current and historical LU/LC maps for project areas and appropriate study zones.
- Conduct LU/LC change-detection analysis using satellite imagery.
- Classify land-use categories such as agricultural land, forest, scrub, wasteland, water bodies, settlements, mining areas, etc.
- Prepare LU/LC statistics and interpret changes in relation to mining and other developmental activities.
- Integrate LU/LC analysis with environmental impact assessment and cumulative/change-analysis requirements.
4. Mining & Environmental Regulatory Support
- Assist in preparation/review of documentation related to Environmental Clearance (EC), Terms of Reference (ToR), amendments, compliance and monitoring requirements.
- Support responses to observations/queries from regulatory authorities.
- Assist with documentation related to MoEFCC, SEIAA, SPCB/PCC, IBM and other applicable authorities, as relevant to the project.
