Role Purpose

Design, develop and support mainframe components as a senior individual contributor: delivering high-quality, well-tested and maintainable solutions, resolving complex technical problems, and supporting less experienced engineers within the team.

Key Responsibilities

Development & Design

- Design and build mainframe components, services and enhancements within the agreed architecture and standards.
- Translate user stories and specifications into clean, efficient and testable implementations.
- Handle complex technical problems, performance issues and non-trivial defects independently.
- Contribute to technical design discussions, estimation and solution options.

Quality Engineering

- Write and maintain unit, integration and regression tests to agreed coverage expectations.
- Participate actively in code reviews, providing and acting on constructive feedback.
- Apply secure coding practices, effective error handling and appropriate logging.

Delivery & Support

- Deliver committed scope within agreed sprint or release timelines with predictable quality.
- Support build, deployment, environment issues and release verification activities.
- Investigate production incidents, perform root-cause analysis and implement durable fixes.

Collaboration

- Work closely with leads, architects, QA, business analysts and support teams.
- Participate in agile ceremonies, backlog refinement and dependency discussions.




- Mentor junior developers through pairing, reviews and knowledge sharing.

Key Responsibilities

Technology Focus — Mainframe

- Design, develop and support COBOL/CICS/DB2 batch and online components within agreed standards.
- Optimize batch windows, DB2 access paths and resource consumption to protect service levels.
- Support mainframe modernization, API exposure and integration with distributed and cloud platforms.

Required Technical Competencies

Core Skills

COBOL, JCL, CICS, VSAM, DB2 and z/OS utilities; batch and online program design and optimization.

Design & Architecture

Mainframe application architecture, modularization, API enablement and modernization/coexistence patterns.

Data & Integration

DB2 and VSAM data design, SQL tuning, file handling, data conversion, integrity and reconciliation.

Platform & DevOps

z/OS operations, scheduling, change management, environment promotion and mainframe-to-distributed integration.

Quality & Operations

Unit and regression testing, batch cycle validation, performance and MIPS optimization, defect RCA.

Experience & Qualifications





- 8+ years of hands-on mainframe development experience in enterprise environments.
- Strong track record delivering production-grade components across full delivery cycles.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or IT, or equivalent experience.
- Relevant platform or cloud certifications advantageous, not mandatory.

- Analytical, detail-oriented approach to problem solving.
- Clear written and verbal communication within a delivery team.
- Team-oriented, dependable and open to feedback.

Location-Specific Expectations

- Collaborate from an India delivery location with stakeholders across regions and time zones.
- Ensure standards, decisions and reusable patterns are documented and adopted across distributed squads.
- Support virtual workshops, technical governance and production-readiness reviews.

- Working, tested and reviewed code delivered to agreed scope and timelines.
- Low defect leakage into system, UAT and production environments.
- Timely resolution of assigned defects and production incidents.
- Accurate technical documentation and effective knowledge transfer.
- Consistent adherence to coding, security and testing standards.
