About the Role
We are looking for a Product Design Engineer to own the mechanical design of our products, from the first 3D model through to the finished unit leaving our facility.
You will have real ownership here. Because we design and build in the same place, you will see the results of your decisions quickly, learn from them, and improve the next revision. It is a rare level of visibility for an engineer at this stage of their career, and the reason people who like building things tend to stay.
What You Will Own
1. 3D Master Model of Every Product
- Every cutout, bracket, conduit, cable gland, drain point, sensor pocket, service panel and mounting point drawn before anything is cut on the shop floor.
- Our rule is simple: nothing gets built until it exists on CAD.
2. Production Drawings
- Create production drawings that a fabricator can build from without calling you.
- Flat patterns, bend tables, weld callouts, tolerances, surface finish, fastener callouts, and a bill of materials generated from the model rather than typed separately.
- Drawings carry a version number and revision history.
3. Sheet Metal Design
- SS304 and SS316 tub shells, enclosures, frames, chassis and brackets.
- Design for the bend radii, tooling and weld processes our vendors actually have.
4. Serviceability
- Design bays and access panels so that the chiller, pump, filter cartridge, UV lamp and controller can all be removed and replaced on a customer site without cutting the product open.
5. Wet and Dry Separation
- These are electrical products that sit in water.
- Route cables, position glands, specify IP-rated enclosures, plan drainage, and keep 230V mains physically separated from low-voltage electronics.
6. Vendor Conversation
- Sit with laser cutting, bending, welding, machining and powder coating vendors.
- Change the design so they can make it at the tolerance, finish and cost required.
- Design for manufacturing means designing for the job shop down the road, not for a theoretical factory.
7. First-Off Build
- Be on the floor when the first unit is made.
- Measure what did not fit, record it, correct the model, and release the next revision.
8. Part Count and Material Cost Per Unit
- Know what each product costs in material and hardware.
- Reduce cost without reducing quality.
What You Must Have
- 2 to 4 years designing products that actually got manufactured. Not concept work, not CAD support work.
- Sheet metal design, properly. You should be able to explain flat pattern development, bend allowance and K-factor, minimum bend radius, bend relief and weld preparation in the interview, without preparing for it.
- Working knowledge of stainless steel. When to use SS304 and when SS316, what 2B and No.4 brushed finishes are, and how to design around weld distortion and heat tint on a visible surface.
- Production drawing skills. Basic GD&T;, tolerance stack-up, fits and clearances, surface finish symbols, correct title block and revision control. Drawings that a shop can read without a phone call.
- Strong 3D CAD. SolidWorks, Creo, Fusion 360, Siemens NX, Inventor, CATIA, Onshape or Rhino — any of these is fine. What matters is that you are strong in the sheet metal and assembly environments, not only in part modelling.
- Direct vendor experience. You have personally sent files to a laser cutting or press brake vendor, argued about a tolerance, and gone to the shop to check the first piece.
- B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical, Production or Industrial Engineering, or a Product / Industrial Design degree with strong engineering fundamentals.
Good to Have
- HVAC or refrigeration exposure: Our tubs have a refrigeration circuit inside them — compressor, condenser, evaporator, refrigerant line routing, insulation, condensate management and ventilation. Any exposure here is a solid advantage.
- Water system design: Pumps, pipe runs, unions, isolation valves, drain points and leak-free joints.
- Electrical layout awareness in a wet product: IP65 and IP68 ratings, cable glands, earthing, and keeping mains away from water.
- Rendering and visualisation: KeyShot, SolidWorks Visualize,
Blender or similar — useful for customer-facing product presentation.
- Startup or small-team experience: There is no drawing office here. You will be the drawing office.
Preferred Background
Engineers who have worked as design or development engineers at Danfoss, Grundfos, Blue Star, Voltas, Daikin, Copeland, Carrier, Johnson Controls Hitachi, Godrej Appliances, Havells, Lloyd, Whirlpool, IFB, Bosch, Panasonic or Rinnai — or at any HVAC, refrigeration, pump, water treatment, appliance or commercial kitchen equipment manufacturer — will find this a natural fit.
Stainless steel fabrication backgrounds are equally welcome — commercial kitchen equipment, dairy and food processing equipment, pharma equipment, or process tanks and vessels. That world already speaks the language of SS grades, welding and hygienic finishes.
If you are currently doing one narrow component in a large company and want ownership of a complete product — from the first sketch to the unit that ships to a customer — this move gives you exactly that.
This Role Is Probably Not For You If
- Your drawings are checked and released by a senior engineer, and you have never signed off a drawing yourself.
- You have only worked on fixtures, jigs or tooling for a single component and have not designed a whole product.
- You want a desk role. This job involves the shop floor, vendor visits and dust.
- You prefer to model and hand over, rather than stay with a design until the physical unit works.
What Success Looks Like in Your First Six Months
- Every product in our range has a complete 3D master model with all provisions drawn — nothing left to be figured out on site.
- A full production drawing set released for at least one product, and built by a fabricator without repeated clarification calls.
- No improvised work on the shop floor — nothing gets cut, drilled or bracketed that is not on a drawing.
- Material and hardware cost per unit is known, documented and tracked for each SKU.
- At least one design change that measurably reduced cost, assembly time or field failures.
Ability to commute/relocate:
- Chetput, Chennai, Tamil Nadu: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Preferred)
