Job Title: Senior Manager - Payroll & Business Development

Location: Mumbai.

Experience: MBA in Human resources / Labour Law with minimum 10 years of experience, post qualification, with strong expertise in payroll, statutory compliance, client management and business development

Key Responsibilities:

Business

· Support the Partner in managing end-to-end Payroll and Compliance functions for Indian operations of foreign clients, ensuring accurate, timely and compliant payroll delivery.

· Own monthly payroll processing, payroll validation, statutory deductions, reconciliations, payroll MIS and payroll accounting inputs, ensuring strong controls and timely closure.

· Drive payroll governance, process standardisation and continuous improvement, including payroll cost analysis, headcount planning, vendor management and service-level monitoring.

· Identify and generate business development opportunities for Payroll, Compliance and related DHC services; support lead generation, RFP responses, scope of work, proposals and fee quotations.

· Build and manage client relationships, identify additional service requirements and support cross-selling / upselling opportunities across GKS and other SBUs, while ensuring timely invoicing, collections and no revenue leakage.

Operations – Client Engagement

· Act as a key interface between foreign management, Indian subsidiary management, consultants and internal teams for smooth and effective delivery of Payroll and Compliance services.

· Understand client requirements relating to payroll processes, employee data, monthly MIS, reporting requirements, controls and service deliverables,



and translate them into actionable workflows.

· Discuss and agree with clients on payroll systems, processes, documentation, approvals, data security and authorisation mechanisms aligned with best practices.

· Coordinate engagement and mandate letters, obtain signed copies and ensure complete handover to the operations team for execution.

· Manage day-to-day client relationships, review service performance and ensure client requirements, escalations and queries are effectively addressed.

· Handhold and guide the payroll operations team to ensure accurate execution, timely client deliverables and adherence to agreed SLAs.

· Coordinate with the Tax SBU and relevant internal teams for payroll-related tax matters, annual income tax return requirements and statutory audits.

· Review monthly payroll reports, compliance dashboards, reconciliations and management reporting packs, highlighting key variances, risks and action points.

Operations – Talent and Technology

· Lead the monthly payroll closure process within defined timelines, ensuring accurate computation, approvals, payroll controls, reconciliations and timely disbursement.

· Manage payroll vendors and technology platforms, including implementation, process mapping, data validation, issue resolution, MIS and service-level governance.

· Manage India statutory and regulatory compliance relevant to payroll and employment, including PF, ESIC, PT, LWF, Gratuity, TDS and Contract Labour compliance.

· Monitor changes in Labour Laws, tax and regulatory requirements and communicate relevant implications to clients, the team and leadership; ensure timely process updates.

· Prepare and review payroll MIS, cost reports, headcount analytics, variance analysis and management dashboards to support business and workforce decisions.

· Assess manpower requirements, raise manpower requisitions through ERP,



participate in interviews, induct new joiners and train them on payroll, compliance and client-service processes.

· Build and develop a robust payroll and client-service team, review internal controls and procedures, strengthen process documentation and support continuous improvement and ISO certification requirements.

· Build and develop a strong team, review and improve internal controls and procedures, and support ISO certification renewal.

Key Skills & Attributes

· MBA / Labour Law with 10+ years of post-qualification experience, with strong expertise in end-to-end Payroll, HR Operations and statutory compliance.

· Strong knowledge of Indian payroll and employment compliance requirements, including PF, PT, ESIC, LWF, Gratuity, TDS and Contract Labour compliance.

· Hands-on experience in managing payroll operations for multinational companies / foreign clients or US-headquartered India subsidiaries, with strong client-facing exposure.

· Demonstrated business development capability, including lead generation, client relationship management, RFP responses, proposal preparation, scope definition, fee quotations and cross-selling opportunities.

· Strong client management, commercial awareness, analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify business opportunities from client requirements.

· Ability to independently manage multiple payroll, compliance, client and business development workstreams and deliver within agreed timelines.

· Strong team management, mentoring, stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with senior leadership and international stakeholders.

· Excellent written and verbal English with ability to work with US-based leadership and foreign clients across time zones.

· Familiarity with payroll / HRMS platforms and ability to work with payroll data, MIS, reconciliations, reporting and process automation.

Pay: ₹1,100,000.00 - ₹1,200,000.00 per year
