An IT Support Specialist (also known as a Helpdesk Technician or Desktop Support Specialist) serves as the primary point of contact for resolving day-to-day technical issues within an organization or for external clients. The role focuses on keeping hardware, software, and network operations running smoothly so employees can work without interruption.

Core Responsibilities

- Technical Troubleshooting: Diagnoses and resolves issues related to operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux), application crashes, network connectivity, and peripheral devices.
- Hardware & Software Setup: Prepares, configures, and deploys laptops, desktops, mobile devices, monitors, and printers for employees.
- User Onboarding & Access Management: Creates user accounts, assigns permissions, configures single sign-on (SSO), and manages access via Active Directory or cloud platforms (e.g., Google Workspace, Microsoft 365).
- Ticketing & Queue Management: Logs, prioritizes, tracks, and escalates technical issues using IT service management platforms like ServiceNow, Jira, or Zendesk.
- System Maintenance & Security:



Applies software updates, patch management, and antivirus definitions, and enforces basic cybersecurity hygiene (e.g., multi-factor authentication).
- Documentation & Training: Creates step-by-step guides for internal knowledge bases and conducts brief training sessions for users on new software or security policies.
