Position Overview
We are looking for a Lead Embedded Engineer who can take ownership of embedded product/module development from requirements through design, implementation, debugging, integration, validation, and deployment. The role requires robust hands-on embedded engineering capability along with the ability to mentor engineers, work directly with customers, estimate development effort, and drive projects toward reliable, production-ready outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Own embedded product/module development end-to-end, from requirements analysis to deployment and support.
- Design and develop embedded firmware using C/C++ for microcontroller-based systems.
- Develop and integrate bare-metal and RTOS-based applications, drivers, middleware, and application logic.
- Implement and debug communication interfaces including UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, and Ethernet.
- Perform firmware debugging, root-cause analysis, issue resolution, and system-level troubleshooting.
- Read and interpret hardware schematics and collaborate with hardware engineers during board bring-up and integration.
- Troubleshoot PCB-level and system-level issues and support hardware/firmware integration.
- Lead technical discussions with customers and translate requirements into practical engineering solutions.
- Estimate development effort, identify technical dependencies/risks, and contribute to project planning and schedules.
- Mentor junior engineers, review technical work, and promote good coding, debugging, documentation, and development practices.
- Review requirements and schedules, challenge unrealistic assumptions when required, and communicate technical constraints clearly.
- Differentiate between prototype development and product development, with focus on reliability, maintainability,
and production readiness.
- Contribute to technical documentation, design reviews, test planning, release activities, and project status updates.
Technical Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Electrical, Instrumentation, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 2+ years of hands-on experience in embedded firmware/software development.
- Strong programming skills in Embedded C/C++; knowledge of coding standards and good software practices.
- Hands-on experience with microcontrollers and bare-metal/RTOS-based embedded development.
- Working knowledge of UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, Ethernet, and related embedded communication protocols.
- Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills using software and hardware debugging techniques.
- Ability to read schematics and understand hardware/firmware interfaces.
- Experience with board bring-up, firmware integration, system testing, and issue investigation.
- Ability to understand and work with technical requirements, specifications, interfaces, and test cases.
What Sets a Great Lead Apart
- Has independently owned a product or major software/firmware module.
- Can troubleshoot firmware issues systematically and identify root causes.
- Can read schematics and understand PCB/hardware interactions.
- Can debug PCB and system-level problems in collaboration with hardware teams.
- Has interacted directly with customers and can communicate technical topics clearly.
- Has mentored junior engineers and helped improve team capability.
- Can estimate development effort and communicate assumptions, dependencies, and risks.
- Can push back constructively when requirements or schedules are unrealistic.
- Understands the difference between prototype development and production/product engineering.
Preferred / Good-to-Have Skills
- Experience with automotive, industrial, mobility, or other safety/reliability-focused embedded products.
- Exposure to CAN/SAE J1939, diagnostics, bootloaders, firmware update mechanisms, or embedded networking.
- Familiarity with Git/version control, issue tracking, code reviews, and structured software development processes.
- Experience working across hardware, firmware, testing, and system integration teams.
