Troubleshooting and Repair: Diagnose electronic, pneumatic, or hydraulic faults in machinery and programmable logic controllers (PLCs), replacing defective parts to reduce downtime.
System Installation: Set up new instrumentation infrastructure and connect related electrical circuits following engineering schematics and P&IDs; (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams).
Preventative Maintenance: Carry out routine scheduled inspections and upkeep according to a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
Documentation: Maintain accurate logs of all calibrations, repairs, parts usage, and updates made to plant layout drawings.
Requirements
Education: Associate degree, technical certification, or vocational training (such as an ITI in Instrument Mechanics) in electronics, industrial automation, or instrumentation technology.
Technical Knowledge: Robust foundation in electrical and electronic principles, and the ability to read complex wiring diagrams, blueprints, and schematics.
Diagnostic Proficiency: Skill in operating test equipment including oscilloscopes, multimeters, and digital logic probes.
Soft Skills: High attention to detail, manual dexterity, and clear communication abilities to coordinate with engineers and operators.
