Vertical Lathe Operator – Roles & Responsibilities1. Machine Operation

- Operate Vertical Lathe Machine (VTL) as per production requirements and approved work instructions.
- Load and unload components safely using appropriate lifting equipment.
- Set and operate the machine according to the required process parameters.
- Select and use suitable cutting tools, inserts, holders, and fixtures.
- Ensure proper workpiece clamping, alignment, and centering before machining.
- Monitor machine operation and take corrective action for abnormal conditions.

1. Drawing & Process Understanding

- Read and understand engineering drawings, dimensions, tolerances, and machining specifications.
- Follow process sheets, work instructions, tool-setting sheets, and control plans.
- Understand machining sequences and identify critical dimensions.

1. Quality Control

- Perform first-piece inspection and in-process inspection as required.
- Measure components using instruments such as Vernier Caliper, Micrometer, Bore Gauge, Height Gauge, and Dial Gauge.
- Ensure dimensional accuracy and surface finish meet specified requirements.
- Identify and segregate rejected/non-conforming components.
- Report quality issues immediately to the Setter, Quality Inspector, or Supervisor.

1. Tool & Parameter Management

- Check tool condition and replace worn or damaged inserts/tools.
- Maintain appropriate cutting speed, feed, depth of cut, and other machine parameters.
- Monitor tool wear and make necessary offsets/corrections within authorized limits.
- Minimize tool breakage, rejection,



and machining defects.

1. Production Responsibilities

- Achieve assigned production targets while maintaining quality and safety.
- Maintain cycle time and reduce unnecessary machine idle time.
- Monitor machine utilization and report production delays.
- Coordinate with Setter, Quality, Production, and Maintenance teams to resolve operational issues.

1. Machine & Workplace Maintenance

- Perform routine machine cleaning and basic operator-level maintenance.
- Check coolant, lubrication, hydraulic pressure, and other basic machine conditions.
- Keep the machine and surrounding workplace clean and organized.
- Report machine breakdowns, abnormal noises, vibration, leakage, or other issues to Maintenance.

1. Safety

- Follow all company safety procedures and PPE requirements.
- Ensure proper guarding and safety interlocks are in place before operation.
- Follow protected material loading/unloading and lifting practices.
- Never operate the machine under unsafe or abnormal conditions.
- Follow 5S, Kaizen, and workplace safety practices.

1. Documentation & Reporting

- Record production quantity, rejection quantity, downtime, and other required production data.
- Maintain inspection and process-related records as required.
- Inform the Supervisor about production, quality, tooling, and machine-related issues.

Key Skills Required Pay: ₹9,567.32 - ₹31,825.16 per month
