- Job Purpose:

The Yard In-charge will be responsible for overseeing the end-to-end operations of the scrap yard, ensuring profitability, operational efficiency, and compliance. Tasked with overseeing every critical facet of the business—from initial conception and investment proposal of scrap yard to full commissioning and ongoing management. This leader is responsible for collecting, cleaning, sorting, processing, and selling all manner of scrap and process waste. The role demands not only day-to-day operational excellence but also robust compliance with municipal and environmental regulations, community relations, financial acumen and a relentless commitment to ensuring that the yard thrives as a profitable enterprise. 4) Key Result Areas/Accountabilities:

Safety

- Ensure adherence to all legal, regulatory, safety, and environmental norms.
- Maintain a secure, clean, and organized yard facility.
- Train staff on safety, equipment usage, and operational standards.
- Implement workplace safety protocols, monitor employee adherence, and conduct routine safety audits to minimize risk of injury, environmental harm, or regulatory breach.

Sustainability

- Conduct regular inspections for compliance and risk mitigation.
- Lead acquisition of necessary permits, licenses, and regulatory approvals to ensure lawful commencement and operation of the yard.
- Oversee the full commissioning process, including the layout and installation of cleaning, sorting,



and processing equipment; security infrastructure; and waste management systems.
- Manage required documentation and reporting for audits, inspections, and periodic reviews by any internal or external stakeholders
- Serve as the primary contact for regulatory bodies, responding promptly to any queries or visits and implementing corrective actions as needed.
- Enforce environmental sustainability policies, including responsible disposal of non-sellable waste and pollution mitigation strategies.

Customer Centricity

- Oversee sorting, collection, baling, and other value addition processes.
- Ensure quality control and grading of incoming and outgoing materials
- Build and nurture relationships with local scrap suppliers, waste generators, municipal bodies, and potential scrap buyers to establish a robust supply and sales pipeline.
- Establish and refine effective workflows for material handling, ensuring that incoming scrap is promptly processed and waste is managed in accordance with best practices.
- Handle scrap vendor or customer complaints related to quality, resolving issues and implementing corrective measures to prevent recurrence.

Cash

- Coordinate timely lot-wise hedging and sale of by-products.
- Maintain accurate documentation and inventory records.




- Manage the complete cycle from Purchase Order (PO) issuance to vendor payments.
- Develop and present a comprehensive investment proposal for the establishment of the scrap yard, including projected costs, operational requirements compliances and financial returns.
- Monitor inventory levels of both incoming scrap and processed materials, ensuring timely turnover and optimum yard capacity utilization.
- Maintain detailed and accurate records of transactions for accounting and tax purposes.

Cost

- Own the Profit & Loss accountability for the yard and sourcing area.
- Develop and implement strategies to optimize yard operations and maximize profitability.
- Optimize transportation costs and ensure timely deliveries.
- Drive cost efficiency in scrap procurement, labor, utilities, equipment maintenance, regulatory fees, and waste disposal
- KPI report on yard financial performance providing insight and recommendations for improvement.

Systems / Process / People

- Lead and supervise teams involved in loading, unloading, sorting, and baling.
- Ensure optimal staffing levels and shift planning.
- Plan and manage logistics for scrap movement from collection centers and vendors.
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders for smooth operations.
- Foster collaborative relationships with local communities, municipal agencies, and environmental organizations including public outreach to promote Hindalco’s recycling initiative
- Drive process implementation at yard along with smooth integration with Hindalco’s systems
