This role will report to Lead Technical Programme Manager within our Online team.
About the Online Technology Programme for Search
Search is one of the most critical customer journeys at Tesco. As our range expands rapidly through Marketplace and Clothing, and customer expectations evolve towards more conversational and intent driven interactions, Search must continuously adapt to remain fast, relevant and intuitive.As Technical Programme Manager for Search, you will deliver complex, multi disciplinary programmes that sit at the intersection of engineering, data science, AI/ML and customer experience, that improve search relevance, query understanding and overall discoverability at scale—supporting millions of searches across an ever growing catalogue of SKUs.

As the number of products increases and customer expectations shift towards smarter, more intuitive interactions, Search must continuously evolve.This role is pivotal in ensuring Tesco’s Search capability remains relevant, scalable, strategically differentiated and continues to drive sales and value.
You will be responsible for
Programme Delivery & Execution• Drive the successful delivery of value in Search initiatives across platform, data, AI and customer experience domains.• Coordinate delivery across Search Engineering, Data Science, Platform, Product, UX and Marketplace/Clothing teams.• Manage programme plans, milestones, dependencies and delivery risks to ensure outcomes are achieved.• Support the balance of short-term customer and business improvements with longer-term capability development.
Search Intelligence, Data & AI Delivery• Support programmes that improve query interpretation, rewriting and intent understanding, leveraging AI and machine learning capabilities.
- Partner closely with Data Science, Engineering and Product teams to coordinate experimentation, model development and production deployment activities.
- Spot opportunities and support the acceleration of experimentation and reduce the cycle time from concept to • Enable delivery of improvements in ranking, relevance, recall and personalisation through structured programme governance and execution.
- Help ensure Search platforms can scale effectively to support growth across Grocery, Marketplace and Clothing.
Customer & Experience Focus• Maintain a customer-centric focus, ensuring Search initiatives deliver measurable value improvements to customer journeys and business outcomes.• Support the evolution of Search capabilities across emerging interaction models, including conversational and AI-assisted experiences.• Use customer insights, operational metrics and business priorities to help shape delivery plans and programme roadmaps.
Stakeholder Management & Collaboration• Build strong relationships across Engineering, Product, Data Science and business teams.• Communicate programme progress, dependencies, risks and delivery trade-offs clearly to stakeholders.• Facilitate alignment between teams to ensure successful execution of cross-functional Search initiatives. • Prepare concise updates for leadership forums and governance reviews.
Governance,
Risk & Continuous Improvement• Maintain effective programme governance, including tracking milestones, risks, issues, actions and dependencies.• Create clarity in ambiguous delivery environments, particularly where experimentation and AI-driven development intersect with traditional delivery models.• Contribute to improvements in programme delivery processes, reporting and ways of working.• Support the measurement and tracking of programme outcomes and benefits.

What We're Looking ForEssential Skills• Experience delivering technology programmes within complex, cross-functional environments.
- Proven ability to coordinate delivery across Product, Engineering and Data teams.
- Experience working with Data Science or Machine Learning teams and supporting experimentation-led delivery.
- Robust stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Effective planning, dependency management, risk management and governance capabilities.
- Strong customer and commercial awareness, with the ability to link delivery activities to business outcomes.
- Comfortable operating in ambiguity and navigating evolving priorities.
Advantageous Skills or Willingness to Develop• Understanding of Search, Discovery, Recommendations, AI/ML or data-driven platforms.
- Awareness of search relevance, ranking, query understanding or information retrieval principles.
