US Tax Operations Manager

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced US Tax Operations Manager to lead and manage the US Tax Compliance and Tax Preparation function. The ideal candidate will have solid knowledge of US federal and multi-state taxation, proven experience managing tax teams, and the ability to drive process efficiency, quality, compliance, and timely delivery.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead and manage the US Tax Compliance and Tax Preparation function across teams.
- Manage work allocation, resource planning, timelines, productivity, quality, and process adherence.
- Establish and improve SOPs, review mechanisms, KPIs, and compliance controls .
- Provide technical guidance and escalation support on complex US tax matters.
- Review complex tax returns and identify technical or compliance issues.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of tax professionals through training and knowledge sharing.
- Monitor KPIs including productivity, error rates, turnaround time, and overall delivery quality.
- Identify opportunities to improve tax preparation processes, systems, and software.
- Ensure adherence to firm policies, regulatory requirements, audit standards, and documentation practices.
- Support internal/external audits and maintain audit-ready workpapers.




- Support onboarding and transition of new clients, processes, and tax years.
- Prepare and present operational reports to management and US teams.
- Plan resources effectively during peak tax seasons to ensure timely and accurate delivery.
- Promote a culture of ownership, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

- 7+ years of experience in US taxation and compliance , including team management experience.
- Experience managing a team of approximately 10–20 tax professionals .
- Strong knowledge of US federal and multi-state tax laws, regulations, deadlines, and filing processes .
- Hands-on experience with US individual and/or business tax return preparation and review .
- Strong team leadership, mentoring, analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Experience in CPA firms or tax outsourcing is preferred.
- Familiarity with trackers or ticketing systems for workflow and task management.
- Proficiency in tax software such as MyTaxPrepOffice, ProSeries, Drake, UltraTax, Lacerte, or TurboTax Professional .
- Strong knowledge of documentation standards and audit-ready workpapers.
- Ability to adapt to changing tax regulations, priorities, and business requirements.
- EA or CPA certification is an added advantage.
