We're hiring: Systems Engineer, Optical Payloads
EON Space Labs | Hyderabad (on-site) | Full-time | Immediate joiners
EON Space Labs builds indigenous EO/IR optical payloads for space, drone and ground platforms. Our work includes space imagers, star trackers, UAV gimbal payloads and ground surveillance and tracking systems. We're an iDEX Open Challenge winner, and our in-house optics foundry, NETRA-OPTIX, develops germanium-free LWIR optics and monolithic fused-silica telescopes.
We need a systems engineer to own payloads at the system level: from the customer's first requirement to a unit that passes acceptance.
What you'll do
- Turn customer and mission needs into payload specs: GSD, FOV, detection/recognition range, SNR, MTF, pointing and stabilisation
- Build and maintain system budgets for radiometry, SWaP, power, thermal and data rate
- Define the payload architecture across optics, detector, electronics, mechanical, thermal and software, and write the ICDs between them
- Run trade studies on detectors, optical configurations and compute platforms, and document the decisions
- Write verification and test plans (functional, environmental, EMI/EMC) and follow them through integration and test
- Join early customer discussions: understand the problem, present technical solutions and answer questions from defence, space and industry users
- Prepare technical content for proposals, EOIs and RFP compliance matrices
- Support field trials and user demonstrations
What we're looking for
- B.Tech/M.Tech in ECE, EEE, Aerospace, Optics/Photonics, Physics or a related field
- 3+ years in systems engineering for electro-optical, imaging, avionics or space hardware
- Solid grasp of imaging fundamentals: optics, detectors, noise, MTF and radiometry
- Comfortable with MATLAB or Python for analysis and budgets
- Explicit communicator who can explain a technical trade-off to both engineers and customers
Good to have
- Hands-on EO/IR experience (visible, SWIR, MWIR/LWIR, microbolometers)
- Experience with gimbals, stabilisation or tracking systems
- Exposure to space payloads or qualification standards such as MIL-STD-810 / MIL-STD-461
- Optical design tools (Zemax OpticStudio, CODE V) or MBSE tools (SysML, Capella)
- Prior work on DRDO, ISRO, DPSU or armed forces programs
Why EON
- Own complete payload systems at an early-stage deep-tech company
- Work on hardware that flies, from drones to orbit
- Build indigenous defence and space capability for India
Joining: Immediate. Candidates who can join within 10 days are preferred.
