Position: Surface Grinding Operator

Job Summary

We are looking for a skilled and responsible Surface Grinding Operator to operate surface grinding machines and manufacture precision components as per engineering drawings, specifications, and quality requirements. The candidate will be responsible for machine setup, grinding operations, grinding wheel selection and dressing, dimensional inspection, achieving required surface finish and tolerances, and maintaining the machine and workplace.

Key Responsibilities

* Operate surface grinding machines to manufacture precision components.

- Read and understand engineering drawings, job cards, process sheets, and work instructions.
- Understand component dimensions, tolerances, surface finish, flatness, and parallelism requirements.
- Set up the machine according to the component and process requirements.
- Properly mount and secure components using magnetic chucks, fixtures, vices, or other suitable work-holding methods.
- Select the appropriate grinding wheel based on the component material and machining requirements.
- Perform grinding wheel dressing and truing as required.
- Set grinding parameters such as wheel speed, table speed, feed, depth of cut, and spark-out.
- Perform rough and finish grinding operations as per the specified process.
- Monitor the grinding operation and make necessary adjustments to achieve required dimensions.
- Ensure proper coolant flow and maintain coolant condition during the grinding process.
- Measure components during and after grinding using appropriate precision measuring instruments.
- Use instruments such as micrometers, Vernier calipers, height gauges, dial gauges, and other inspection gauges.
- Check critical dimensions, thickness, flatness, parallelism, perpendicularity, and surface finish as specified.
- Ensure components are manufactured within the specified tolerance limits.
- Identify and prevent grinding defects such as grinding burns, cracks, taper, uneven grinding, over-grinding, and poor surface finish.




- Separate and report non-conforming components to the Quality or Production Supervisor.
- Maintain proper identification and traceability of components throughout the process.
- Record production quantities, inspection results, and other required production data.
- Follow approved process sheets and standard operating procedures.
- Perform basic machine cleaning, lubrication, and routine maintenance.
- Maintain grinding wheels, fixtures, tools, magnetic chucks, and other equipment in good working condition.
- Report machine abnormalities, tool issues, vibration, coolant problems, or other equipment-related issues to the supervisor.
- Maintain proper housekeeping and follow 5S practices in the work area.
- Follow all company quality, safety, and environmental procedures.
- Use appropriate PPE and follow safe operating practices while handling grinding machines and components.
- Coordinate with Production, Quality, Tool Room, and Maintenance teams when required.
- Support continuous improvement activities related to quality, productivity, and machine efficiency.

Required Technical Skills

* Good practical knowledge of surface grinding operations.

- Knowledge of grinding wheel selection and dressing.
- Knowledge of magnetic chuck and component setting.
- Ability to understand engineering drawings.
- Knowledge of dimensions, tolerances, limits and fits.
- Knowledge of surface finish requirements.
- Ability to perform precision measurements.
- Knowledge of basic grinding defects and their causes.
- Basic knowledge of machine maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Good understanding of workplace safety requirements.

Measuring Instruments





The candidate should be familiar with the use of:
- Outside Micrometer
- Vernier Caliper
- Height Gauge
- Dial Indicator / Dial Gauge
- Surface Plate
- Bore Gauge, where applicable
- Precision Gauges
- Other inspection instruments used in surface grinding operations

Educational Qualification

* **ITI – preferred.
- Diploma in Mechanical may also be considered.
- Candidates with relevant hands-on experience in Machine Operator will be preferred.

Experience

* 0 to 2 years of experience required Freshers may also apply with ITI Machinist or Machine Operator background The ideal candidate should:

- Have hands-on experience operating surface grinding machines.
- Be able to work with close dimensional tolerances.
- Have good knowledge of precision measurement.
- Be able to understand engineering drawings.
- Have positive attention to detail.
- Be quality-conscious and responsible.
- Be willing to work in shifts, if required.
- Be able to work independently and as part of a production team.
- Follow safety and quality procedures strictly.

Safety Responsibilities

* Follow all safety instructions while operating the surface grinding machine.
- Wear required PPE such as safety shoes, safety glasses, and other prescribed protective equipment.
