About the Role

We're looking for an experienced Subtitling Editor to join our freelance editorial team. You'll work on English-language subtitles for major Hollywood studio content, ensuring accuracy, readability, and cultural nuance across formats: including standard subtitles and SDH (subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing).

Responsibilities

- Format and edit English subtitles for audio and grammatical accuracy on projects for major Hollywood studios
- Format and edit English subtitles intended for the deaf and hard of hearing (SDH)
- Add footnotes on cultural references and expressions to assist translators working from the English files
- Perform audio fidelity quality checks, ensuring subtitles accurately match the audio
- Localize language and spelling for both British and U.S. English releases
- Manipulate English subtitle files using proprietary software, including preparing scripts and running conversions between formats




- Ensure timely delivery of all files in line with project deadlines

What We're Looking For

- Minimum 3 years of experience in subtitling, captioning, or a related editorial/language field (required: please apply only if you meet this threshold)
- Excellent command of English grammar, spelling, and style, with fluency in both British and U.S. English conventions
- Solid attention to detail
- Ability to learn and work confidently on proprietary subtitling software
- Cultural awareness and research skills, particularly for identifying references and expressions relevant to translators
- Reliable, deadline-driven working style suited to freelance/contract work

Availability & Work Terms

- Freelance/Contractor role. Availability is scheduled on a monthly basis.
- A minimum of 15 days per month availability is expected, to ensure a mutually beneficial working relationship.
- Work timings are flexible: you decide your own hours, provided deadlines are met.
