In this journey, We are seeking a Structural Engineer to lead the design, analysis, and validation of structures for phased array antenna systems for a space-borne SAR mission, from concept through flight qualification.
The role requires to own the mechanical development of the panels through the current design and development phase — maturing the panel design, resolving the mechanical detail, and making the hardware manufacturable and integrable. Responsibilities
Mechanical development (primary focus)
- Own and mature the mechanical development of the SAR antenna panels — detailed design, tolerancing, interfaces, fastening and bonding, and mounting provisions.
- Turn analysis and design intent into manufacturable, integrable hardware; identify and resolve practical mechanical issues while the design is still fluid.
- Drive design decisions on panel construction, interfaces, and joining/mounting methods, balancing structural performance with manufacturability and future integration.
- Develop and own engineering drawings, interface control definitions, and mechanical design documentation.
- Perform and support tolerance analysis and the design work needed to meet precision requirements (flatness, alignment, fit).
- Support the analysis team by supplying design detail and closing the loop between analysis findings and design changes.
Design for manufacture and integration
- Develop the panel design for manufacturability and integrability — work through how the panel will be built and assembled and feed that back into the design.
- Coordinate with manufacturing early to mature processes (bonding, machining, assembly) alongside the design.
- Identify long-lead tooling, jig, and fixture needs and begin defining them so they're ready when build and integration start.
- Develop the panel design with the later Assembly, Integration & Test phase in mind — designing in the features, access, datums, and margins that make AIT achievable.
- Begin shaping the eventual AIT approach — outline assembly sequence, integration concept, and verification/inspection strategy (including bond-line inspection and flatness/alignment metrology) so the programme enters AIT well-prepared.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related engineering discipline.
- 3+ years of mechanical/structural engineering experience, with hardware development / detailed design content.
- Experience maturing a mechanical design from concept toward a buildable, releasable state.
- Solid grounding in mechanical design fundamentals — tolerancing/GD&T;, fasteners and joints, interfaces, and materials.
- Proficiency in creating and reviewing engineering drawings and specifications.
- Design-for-manufacture and design-for-integration mindset — thinking ahead to how hardware gets built and assembled.
- Clear technical documentation and communication.
- Experience with precision structures and tight tolerances (flatness, alignment, thermal-stability-driven requirements).
- Experience developing bonded structures and bonded-assembly designs, and awareness of associated inspection needs (ultrasound / thermography / visual).
- CAD proficiency (CATIA / NX / SolidWorks or equivalent)
- Familiarity with assembly tooling and fixture concepts, even at a definition stage.
