Toxics Link is an environmental NGO, dedicated to bringing toxics related information into the public domain, both relating to struggles and problems at the grassroots as well as global information to the local levels. We work with other groups around the country as well as internationally in an understanding that this will help bring the experience of the ground to the fore, and lead to a more meaningful articulation of issues.

Link also engages in on-the ground work especially in areas of hazardous and medical waste management, food safety and chemicals among others.

Key responsibilities under the project will include identifying, accessing, compiling, analysing, and integrating a range of administrative, industry, regulatory, and field-based datasets required to develop the mass balance model and undertake associated material and substance flow analyses.

Core Academic Qualifications

· Primary Degrees: Master’s degree (M.Sc./M.Tech.) in Environmental Science, Industrial Ecology, or Materials Science.

· Specialized Analytics: Advanced degrees or specialized coursework in Resource Economics, Material Flow Analysis (MFA), or Life Cycle Assessment (LCA).

- Should have minimum 3-5 years of working experience in the development sector; previous experience in environmental sector will be an advantage. Please do not apply if you do not possess requisite work experience.





Essential Qualified Knowledge and Expertise · National Policy & Regulatory Frameworks: Comprehensive knowledge of India’s statutory mechanisms, including the Battery Waste Management (BWM) Rules, Hazardous and Other Wastes Rules, Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) guidelines, and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) portal mechanics. Deep understanding of heavy metal chemistry, battery manufacturing chemistry (lead grids, lead oxides, sulfuric acid interactions), and thermal/hydrometallurgical secondary smelting processes.

· Data Modeling & Statistics: Proficiency in stock-driven cohort modelling, lifetime distribution analysis for consumer goods, and reconciling macro-economic datasets (such as customs import/export codes under ITC-HS Chapter 78, Vahan vehicle registration data, and factory output reports). Understanding of interlinkages between formal- informal waste flow patterns for lead waste.

· GIS & Supply Chain Mapping: Capability to map industrial clusters, informal scrap aggregation hubs, and logistics pathways across different states to estimate unaccounted or leakage flows.
