About the Role

This is a full-time position for a senior WordPress/PHP developer who can handle real problems without hand-holding.

You'll work across custom WordPress development, third-party integrations, databases, hosting environments, deployments, performance, security, and production support. Some of it is planned work. Some of it is the "why is this broken?" mystery that takes actual detective work. We work in Git, and everything goes through staging before production.

This is not a page-builder job. This is not a “follow the spec” job. You need to investigate, think, propose solutions, and deliver work that holds up in production.

What You’ll Do The work varies from day to day.

Some days it’s:

● Building or extending a custom WordPress plugin

● Connecting WordPress to a CRM, ERP, payment service, form provider, membership platform, or other external system

● Creating custom administrative tools and business workflows

● Maintaining WooCommerce, marketplace, membership, authentication, or SSO functionality

● Building webhooks, scheduled jobs, background processes, and data synchronization

● Migrating legacy data or replacing fragile custom functionality

● Diagnosing slow database queries or application-performance problems

Other days it’s:

● Tracing an issue across PHP, WordPress, an integration, the database, caching, or the server

● Reviewing application and server logs

● Troubleshooting DNS, SSL, redirects, cron jobs, email delivery, or firewall rules

● Responding to a production outage, vulnerability, or malware concern

● Testing a major update in staging

● Fixing a plugin conflict, PHP warning, template, taxonomy, or custom field

● Improving Core Web Vitals

● Making a quick layout tweak

● Sorting out what changed on a site a client edited themselves

You decide the right approach. You estimate the time. You communicate if something is harder than expected. You test it. You deliver.

Who We’re Looking For

You have strong, hands-on PHP and database experience, with deep knowledge of WordPress and the environments it runs in.

Not: “I’ve built a few WordPress sites.”

More like: “I understand how WordPress works under the hood. I’ve built custom plugins and integrations, debugged unfamiliar code, worked with databases and servers, and supported complex production sites without breaking things.”

You don’t need experience with every platform we use. You do need strong fundamentals, sound judgment,



and the ability to get comfortable with unfamiliar systems quickly. You should be someone who can move between a complex development project and a smaller support ticket without treating either as beneath you.

We host and maintain hundreds of sites. Most clients have admin access and use it. You'll work in sites that have been touched by other developers, by plugin authors, and by clients, and you'll need to figure out what actually happened before you change anything.

You’re Technical

You know

● Object-oriented PHP, SQL, and JavaScript

● WordPress core, hooks, filters, capabilities, cron, and custom plugin architecture

● WordPress database architecture, custom queries, and MySQL optimization

● REST APIs, OAuth, webhooks, authentication, and third-party integrations

● Git-based development and deployment

● Hosting, SSH/SFTP, WP-CLI, DNS, SSL, caching, cron, and log analysis

● Background processing, scheduled tasks, data synchronization, retries, and error handling

● Development, staging, backups, regression testing, and production deployment

● Secure WordPress development and vulnerability remediation

You also have meaningful experience extending WooCommerce or another complex WordPress application. Bonus if you’ve worked with multivendor marketplaces, memberships, SSO, payment gateways, CRM or ERP integrations, analytics, privacy tools, accessibility, technical SEO, or PCI-related remediation. Some of our work involves React or Laravel, so experience with either is a plus.

This is critical. You will communicate with our team daily and occasionally communicate directly with clients. You need to:

● Write clearly in English, professional, concise, and human

● Explain technical concepts without hiding behind jargon

● Give realistic estimates

● Ask useful questions when requirements are incomplete

● Flag blockers, risks, or scope changes early

● Push back on a request that will cause problems later, and explain why

● Document technical decisions and leave maintainable notes for the next developer

● Deliver bad news honestly and professionally

● Be responsive during your working hours

How This Works

Work is assigned as tickets and scoped projects. You will:

● Review the request

● Investigate the current implementation

● Ask questions where needed

● Propose the technical approach

● Identify dependencies and risks

● Estimate your time honestly

● Communicate blockers or changes early

● Build and test the solution

● Deploy it safely

● Verify the result

● Document what you did

Work is tracked in 15-minute increments and paid monthly. You may work solo or collaborate with other senior developers depending on the project.

Schedule & Availability

Full time. Consistent overlap with 8am–6pm US Eastern Time is required. You don’t need to work a strict 9–5, but you do need to be responsive during your working hours and overlap enough to stay in sync with the team. You also need to be reliable about:

● Meeting deadlines you commit to

● Responding within a reasonable window

● Communicating when you’re unavailable

● Flagging urgent production issues promptly

● Following through on testing and client-review feedback

This Role Is Not for You If

● You primarily work with page builders and rarely write custom code

● Your WordPress experience is mostly installing themes and configuring plugins

● You haven’t built or substantially extended custom WordPress plugins

● You haven’t maintained production API integrations

● You’re uncomfortable troubleshooting servers, databases, logs, or hosting configuration

● You need detailed instructions for most technical problems

● You treat testing as someone else’s job

● You regularly miss deadlines without communicating early

● Your written or spoken English isn’t strong
