Senior Quality Engineer
Some quality roles ask you to follow the plan. This one asks you to become the person people trust when the answer is not obvious.
You’ll experience the satisfaction of solving mysteries others could not, tracing confusing problems until uncertainty becomes clarity. You’ll feel the pride of knowing your judgment protects real customers and gives teams confidence to move forward.
Here, ownership is real. Your decisions matter. Your curiosity matters. Your willingness to challenge assumptions matters.
You’ll build something lasting, turning lessons into stronger ways of working and recurring frustrations into problems that stay solved. You’ll reshape the future of how quality is built into every customer experience, setting a new standard for thoughtful, intelligent craftsmanship.
This is an opportunity to leave systems stronger than you found them and create a legacy of trust behind every release.

ROLE SNAPSHOT —
- Location/Schedule: India, Remote, Full-Time; India hours with US overlap
- Reports to: Engineering Manager
- Purpose: Own quality and release confidence across a fast-moving commerce estate, investigating defects to root cause, building trustworthy automation, and ultimately owning the release gate.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES —
- Own release verification across the commerce estate and determine the appropriate testing depth based on what actually changed.
- Take ownership of the release gate , including the authority to block releases that are unsafe, unverified, or untestable.
- Establish what code and configuration are actually running by inspecting pipelines, branches, build numbers, environments, and deployment evidence.
- Investigate defects to root cause using logs, databases, source code, and your own SQL rather than simply reporting symptoms.
- Inherit and improve the existing automation and AI prompt library,
prioritizing coverage around high-risk and repeatedly failing paths.
- Build and maintain trustworthy automation, including retiring tests that no longer provide meaningful signal.
- Verify critical commerce paths spanning Shopify, legacy eCommerce, Dynamics 365 integrations, payments, refunds, credits, loyalty, search, catalogue, subscriptions, and pricing.
- Test supported physical-device paths across iOS 16+ and Android 8+, working with the other quality engineer on the shared device estate.
MUST-HAVE QUALIFICATIONS
- Around five years or more in software is indicative, not a hard cutoff, with meaningful experience writing production code.
- Ability to read unfamiliar codebases well enough to determine what a change affects.
- Ability to independently write SQL, including joins and aggregates, and understand an unfamiliar schema.
- Experience building test automation from scratch, including choosing the approach and tooling.
- Current hands-on experience building with AI agents, paired with sound judgment for verifying their output.
- Confidence to declare a build untestable or a release unsafe when the evidence supports that decision.
- Clear written English suitable for actionable defect reports and release notes.
- Ability to work independently across time zones with limited day-to-day direction.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Shopify, Dynamics 365, or commerce integration experience.
- Experience testing systems during migrations where platforms have overlapping ownership of data.
- Familiarity with mobile release processes such as TestFlight, Play Console, or staged rollouts.
- Payments or financial-data testing experience.
- Performance or security testing experience.
- Experience establishing a quality function or working as an early quality hire.
A computer science degree, testing certification, previous QA Lead/Test Manager title, or prior experience with this exact technology stack is not required . WHAT WE OFFER
- A senior quality role with meaningful autonomy rather than scripted test execution.
- Direct ownership of release verification and, after transition, the release gate.
- The opportunity to build and improve the quality function rather than simply inherit a finished process.
- A small engineering team shipping changes most days.
- An environment where AI agents, automated code review, and shared prompt libraries are part of normal engineering work.
- Read access to production logs and databases needed to investigate problems properly.
- Remote work from India, working India hours with a US overlap.
- Occasional outside-hours incident work when something is genuinely down; this is recognized rather than treated as a nightly on-call expectation.
Honest Challenge This role will frustrate someone who wants completed test plans, scripted execution, or a queue of tickets. Two commerce systems are mid-migration, automation coverage still needs significant work, and you will sometimes need to determine whether the problem is the software, deployment, configuration, permissions, or data.
You are expected to investigate ambiguity rather than hand it off. Within your first 90 days, the expectation is that you can own commerce release verification end to end, establish transparent release checks and known gaps, build meaningful automation, and take the release gate.
The short ~5-minute application step will focus heavily on how you reason through real quality problems rather than certifications or tool lists.
