Job OverviewWe are looking for a Senior / Principal Data Engineer to independently lead and execute the migration of a direct mail processing system from Microsoft SQL Server to dbt and Snowflake.

This is a hands-on engineering role for someone with strong experience in data architecture, migration, dbt, Snowflake, and SQL. The ideal candidate should be able to design and implement solutions independently, with minimal day-to-day supervision, and escalate only strategic or architectural decisions when required.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead the end-to-end migration of data workloads from MS SQL Server to dbt + Snowflake.
- Design and implement scalable, maintainable data transformation and modeling solutions using dbt.
- Work across dbt Core, dbt Cloud, and dbt Fusion environments.




- Perform Snowflake administration, configuration, optimization, and operational troubleshooting.
- Analyze existing SQL Server processes and translate them into efficient dbt/Snowflake solutions.
- Troubleshoot complex SQL and data issues involving joins, CTEs, window functions, data discrepancies, and performance.
- Develop and maintain code using Git/GitHub-based workflows.
- Validate data accuracy and integrity throughout the migration process.
- Make independent technical decisions and drive implementation with minimal oversight.
- Collaborate with stakeholders and provide clear updates on progress, risks, and technical decisions.
- Work effectively with AI coding agents and incorporate AI-assisted development into day-to-day engineering workflows.

Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of hands-on dbt experience, covering dbt Core, dbt Cloud, and dbt Fusion.
- Strong hands-on experience with Snowflake administration and operations.
- 5+ years of MS SQL Server experience.
- 3+ years of Git/GitHub-based development workflows.
- Strong SQL troubleshooting and data analysis skills, including:
- Complex joins
- CTEs
- Window functions
- Data discrepancy analysis
- Query optimization
- Proven experience architecting and executing migrations from MS SQL to dbt and Snowflake.
- dbt Analytics Engineer Certification – Mandatory.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of technical deliverables.

Preferred Qualifications
- 12+ years of overall Data Engineering experience.
- dbt Architect Certification – Solid Plus.
- Experience designing data architecture and migration strategies.
- Experience working with AI coding assistants/agents such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or similar tools.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
