About the Role-
We desire to engage a Metallurgist with 3–4 years of steel plant or similar experience to join our technical vertical. You will help to bridge the gap between industry, government on metallurgical and technical matters affecting the Indian Steel Industry.
This is a policy plus technical advocacy role, not shop floor, you will also need to have basic knowledge about mining.
Key support is required to be given in following areas-
1. Technical Advocacy & Policy-
· Analyze government policies, BIS standards QCOs, and regulations from a metallurgical perspective.
·
Prepare technical notes, position papers, and white papers on issues like decarbonization, green steel, alloy surcharges, raw material quality, etc.
Remain associated in BIS sectional committees, technical panels, and ministry meetings.
2. Industry Research & Benchmarking-
· Compile data on steel technologies, global best practices, energy norms, emission benchmarks, and current grade development.
· Compile data power consumption, yield, refractory, metallics. Analyze trends and prepare reports.
· Track global steel technologies like H2-DRI, EAF, CCUS, secondary metallurgy improvements.
3. Interaction with members on -
· Act as one of point of contact for member queries on standards,
testing, grade equivalence
· Coordinate working groups on specific topics: auto steel, stainless, refractories, safety, environment.
4. Standards & Quality-
· Work with BIS to review/draft Indian Standards for steel products. Consolidate member feedback on draft standards.
· Study international standards: ASTM, EN, JIS, ISO and map against Indian requirements.
· Support members on QCO compliance, lab accreditation, and testing infrastructure issues.
5. Communication & Outreach-
· Help in preparation of technical articles for Association,
· Prepare presentations for conferences, parliamentary committees, and stakeholder meetings.
6. Required Qualifications and Skills Required
Education: B.E./B.Tech in Metallurgical Engineering / Materials
Technical Skills:
· Strong fundamentals: physical metallurgy, steel grades, heat treatment, product specs.
· Familiar with IS/ASTM/EN standards for carbon, alloy, stainless steel.
Data skills
· Excel, PowerPoint. Ability to interpret plant data, energy reports, test certificates.
Soft Skills:
· Excellent written + verbal communication for reports. and
· Presentations, Stakeholder management, tact, and ability to explain technical issues.
