? The Role

As our first dedicated DevOps engineer, you'll take primary ownership of our infrastructure and delivery processes while continuing to build backend services. This is a hands-on individual contributor role, roughly 70% DevOps and 30% backend engineering, working with our international engineering team.

Your first priority will be to understand our current setup, identify the biggest opportunities, and turn them into a practical improvement roadmap. Datadog is already in place. You'll establish CI/CD and infrastructure as code, and introduce containerization where it adds value. You'll help choose the tools and approach that fit our stage of growth.

⚙️ What You'll Own

- Choose the right improvements: Assess reliability, security, deployment workflows, and costs. Prioritize changes by customer impact, risk, and effort, then deliver them.
- Make releases repeatable: Build CI/CD pipelines and reproducible environments, automate manual work, and make deployments and rollbacks safer.
- Keep infrastructure reliable and scalable: Own hosting, networking, and capacity planning. Set reliability targets with the team, improve Datadog alerts, and resolve bottlenecks while controlling costs.
- Strengthen security and recovery: Improve access controls, secrets management, and patching. Establish and test backups, restores, and disaster recovery.
- Stay hands-on with the backend:



Build secure APIs and services, improve MySQL performance, and maintain meaningful tests and readable code.
- Build shared operational capability: Document runbooks, share knowledge, and lead incident investigation and follow-up. Help establish and participate in a shared on-call rotation, including incident response outside working hours.

? What We're Looking For

- Production ownership: 5+ years across DevOps, platform, or backend engineering, with substantial hands-on responsibility for production infrastructure.
- Evidence of impact: You can explain improvements you identified, prioritized, and personally delivered, including the results and tradeoffs.
- Automation experience: You've built CI/CD pipelines, managed infrastructure as code, and operated containers in production, using tools such as GitHub Actions, Terraform, and Docker or equivalents.
- Operational depth: Strong cloud, Linux, networking, and troubleshooting skills, plus practical experience with monitoring, incident response, infrastructure security, and recovery.
- Backend capability: You've built and maintained production services in at least one of PHP, Python, or Node.js, with strong SQL/MySQL skills, including indexing and protected schema migrations.
- Clear collaboration: You explain technical decisions, document your work, share operational knowledge, and collaborate async across time zones.

? Nice to Have

- Experience establishing DevOps practices at a startup.
- Hands-on AWS or Datadog experience.
- Experience with Redis, queues, event-driven systems, or operating AI-powered services.

Remote within India, or based at Snapfix headquarters in Ahmedabad.
