About the Role
As a Senior Associate, Data Engineer within the Business Intelligence Unit, you will own the data foundations that power analytics, reporting, applications, and emerging AI/ML use cases. This hands-on onsite role combines production engineering, data modelling, platform optimisation, and stakeholder partnership. You will strengthen existing SQL Server pipelines, support the transition to Snowflake and dbt, and embed disciplined engineering practices across the BIU.
Working with Analysts, Power Platform Developers, and regional business users, you will turn requirements into reliable, maintainable data solutions. Your work will improve data quality, reporting performance, operational resilience, and the speed at which A&M; converts information into objective business decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and improve production ETL scripts, SQL Server processes, and data pipelines, increasing reliability, maintainability, and availability of data used by business-critical reports and applications.
- Design and maintain business-ready dimensional and relational data models that provide trusted foundations for analytics, reporting, application development, and future AI/ML solutions.
- Support the enterprise data warehouse transition to Snowflake by implementing scalable transformations, performance improvements, documentation, and deployment practices using dbt where appropriate.
- Embed application lifecycle management across BIU through Git-based version control, automated testing,
controlled releases, and CI/CD processes for database and transformation assets.
- Diagnose and optimise report queries and data workloads, improving response times, scalability, and operational stability for key regional reporting and application use cases.
- Act as the regional technical subject matter expert for BIU data assets, resolving data questions, report issues, permissions, access requirements, and environment setup needs.
- Partner with Analysts, Power Platform Developers, and stakeholders to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions that deliver measurable insight and operational efficiency.
Essential Skills & Technologies
- Five to eight years of experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, platform engineering, or a comparable technical role, with ownership of production-grade pipelines and ETL processes.
- Robust SQL and SQL Server expertise, including query optimisation, relational design, troubleshooting, SQL Server Agent jobs, and production support for business-critical reporting or application data.
- Hands-on experience with Snowflake or another modern cloud data warehouse, including warehouse performance optimisation, data modelling, and engineering practices for scalable analytical workloads.
- Practical experience with dbt or a comparable transformation framework, covering model development, testing, documentation, lineage, and repeatable deployment of data assets.
- Experience using Git, CI/CD, version-controlled database objects, and controlled deployment processes within an application lifecycle management framework.
- Experience with Azure Data Factory and the broader Azure data ecosystem, including permissions, access management, and data setup supporting analytics and application development.
- Working knowledge of Python or a similar scripting language for data transformation, automation, operational support, and process improvement.
Additional Plus
- Familiarity with data governance, metadata management, documentation standards, lineage, and controls that improve trust, discoverability, and responsible use of enterprise data.
- Experience enabling data products or platforms for Power Platform applications,
business intelligence solutions, and emerging artificial intelligence or machine learning use cases.
- Exposure to consulting, professional services, or multi-region stakeholder environments where technical teams must respond quickly to changing business priorities.
What You'll Bring
You bring a strong production mindset and the judgement to distinguish between a quick fix and an engineering solution that will remain reliable at scale. You have built, maintained, and improved data pipelines in live environments, and you are comfortable investigating failures, optimising SQL, and supporting business-critical data assets. You can work confidently across SQL Server and cloud data warehouse environments, with hands-on experience in Snowflake, data modelling, and preferably dbt.
You understand why Git, testing, CI/CD, documentation, permissions, and repeatable deployments matter, and you apply those practices pragmatically rather than as process for its own sake. You communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders, explain trade-offs, and provide hands-on support when regional users need answers. You work independently while collaborating closely with analysts, application developers, and business partners.
Most importantly, you are curious, detail-oriented, and willing to challenge the status quo when a better, more robust way of delivering data can improve decision-making and operational outcomes.
