Company Description Superfan.ng (SPNG) is an edtech learning platform focused on African languages and cultural knowledge. The product is a gamified, quiz-first app that tests deep understanding of African proverbs, traditions, rites of passage, festivals, folklore, and customs.

Role Description The Senior AI Engineer will design, build, and optimize AI systems that power SPNG’s language and culture learning experiences. This is a full-time remote role responsible for developing and deploying models that support features such as adaptive quizzes, language understanding, personalization, and content generation.

Day-to-day work includes researching and prototyping AI solutions, implementing production-grade machine learning pipelines, collaborating with product and engineering teams on feature design, and improving existing models based on user data and feedback. The Senior AI Engineer will also contribute to system architecture decisions, ensure model performance and reliability at scale, and help define best practices for AI development within the organization.



Mentoring other engineers and staying current with advancements in AI and NLP, especially for African languages and dialects, will be key components of the role.

Qualifications

- Strong foundation in Computer Science, including data structures, algorithms, and systems design.
- Hands-on experience with Software Development for AI/ML systems, using contemporary programming languages and frameworks.
- Expertise in Neural Networks and Pattern Recognition, with a track record of building and optimizing deep learning models.
- Practical experience with Natural Language Processing (NLP), ideally including work on low-resource or multilingual language models.
- Proficiency with machine learning tools and libraries (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, Hugging Face, scikit-learn) and cloud-based ML platforms.
- Experience designing and deploying end-to-end ML pipelines, including data collection, training, evaluation, and monitoring in production.
- Ability to write clean, maintainable, and testable code, and to collaborate effectively within a remote, cross-functional team.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Background or interest in edtech, language learning, or African languages and cultures is highly beneficial.
- Comfort with working autonomously, making informed technical decisions, and mentoring other team members.
