Role Purpose:

We are seeking a Senior ABAP Consultant to lead custom development for the SAP S/4HANA store rollout for the MAF Retail operating company. The consultant will own the technical design of the custom object landscape, deliver the most complex developments personally, review and guide the work of the offshore development team, and safeguard code quality, performance and maintainability across every store wave.

The ideal candidate will have 10 to 12 years of ABAP development experience with robust S/4HANA and retail data model knowledge, proven technical leadership of development teams, and must have completed at least one full greenfield SAP S/4HANA retail implementation.

Role Details - Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

Technical Design and Development Ownership:

- Own the technical design of RICEFW objects across the programme, selecting the right S/4HANA approach and rejecting designs that create upgrade or performance risk.
- Review functional specifications for completeness and feasibility, challenge unnecessary custom development, and propose standard or extensibility-based alternatives.
- Personally deliver the most complex objects using CDS views, AMDP, OData services, BAdIs, released APIs and the ABAP RESTful application programming model, keeping the core clean.

Quality, Performance and Team Guidance:

- Define and enforce development standards for coding, naming, security, transports and documentation, and run peer code reviews before objects move forward.
- Set the performance benchmark for high-volume retail data, applying HANA push-down, parallel processing and efficient selection design, and tune objects that fail it.
- Allocate and track development work across the offshore ABAP team, estimate effort, and mentor mid and junior developers.

Defect Resolution and Cutover Support:

- Lead root cause analysis on complex defects raised during SIT, UAT,



cutover and hypercare, and own resolution through to regression testing.
- Deliver data correction programmes, reconciliation reports and post-load fixes required by the cutover and data migration teams.
- Support interface developments and troubleshooting in coordination with the integration and Basis teams.

Governance and Knowledge Transfer:

- Serve as the offshore technical subject matter expert for custom development throughout the rollout lifecycle, from design through store go-live and hypercare.
- Identify technical risks early, such as effort overruns, unclear specifications, performance exposure or dependency delays, and escalate with proposed mitigations.
- Own delivery of the development scope against the build plan and report status accurately to the Development Lead and programme governance.

Stakeholder Collaboration:

- Act as the primary offshore technical contact, collaborating with functional consultants, integration, data migration, Basis and testing teams across offshore and onshore locations.
- Own technical documentation and handover of custom developments to the application support team, ensuring availability during UAE business hours as required.

Functional/Technical Competencies

Education:

- Bachelor s/master s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field.

Experience:

- 10 to 12 years of hands-on SAP ABAP development experience, including significant delivery on S/4HANA.
- Mandatory:



at least one complete greenfield SAP S/4HANA retail implementation delivered end to end, from design through go-live, with proven expertise in retail data models and high-volume store, article and sales data.
- Track record leading a development team: work allocation, estimation, code review and mentoring.
- Experience owning the development scope through SIT, UAT, cutover, go-live and hypercare on multi-site rollouts.

Technical Skills:

- Deep core ABAP: OO ABAP, ALV, BAPIs, BDC, user exits, BAdIs, enhancement framework, IDoc processing and workflow.
- Deep S/4HANA skills: CDS views, AMDP, OData services, released APIs, RAP and clean core extensibility principles.
- Advanced performance tuning, debugging and SQL trace analysis for high-volume data processing.
- Familiarity with Fiori/UI5 extensions, Adobe or SmartForms, retail components such as IS-Retail and CAR, and transport management.

Soft Skills:

- Excellent written and spoken English, with the confidence to challenge designs and represent the development team to onsite stakeholders.
- Leadership and mentoring ability, with a disciplined approach to root cause analysis.
- Ability to lead under pressure through cutover weekends and fixed store opening deadlines, working offshore with overlap to UAE business hours.

Preferred Qualifications:

- SAP ABAP or SAP S/4HANA development certification.
- Experience leading development for large-scale, multi-location retail SAP rollouts delivered from an offshore location.
- Familiarity with Agile or hybrid methodologies, abapGit or gCTS, SAP Activate, and tools such as Jira or Solution Manager.
