Role Title: Project Engineer – Seat Development

Location: Kolkata

Department: Product Development / R&D;

About the Role

Role Summary - We are looking for someone who can own the entire lifecycle of a seat: concept → design → development → validation → certification → customer handling → vendor management → tooling → final delivery. This role is for someone who can take a seat from a rough idea on paper to a fully certified, customer-approved product ready for production. The person should be able to interact confidently with OEMs, vendors, testing agencies, and internal teams.

They will handle design, development, documentation, certification, costing, and timelines end-to-end.

Responsibilities

- Key Responsibilities

1. Product Design & Engineering

- Understand customer requirements, technical standards, and application needs (Automotive, Railways, Defence, Marine, etc.).
- Create concept designs, 2D drawings, 3D models, BOM, and specifications.
- Select materials, mechanisms, foam compositions, trims, and structural components.
- Ensure manufacturability, durability, ergonomics, and safety compliance.

1. Customer Interaction & Project Ownership

- Attend customer meetings, collect technical inputs, and translate them into design actions.
- Present concepts, drawings, prototypes, and test results to clients.
- Manage timelines, technical queries, and revisions.
- Ensure customer satisfaction from kick-off till SOP (start of production).

1. New Product Development (NPD)

- Develop prototypes, coordinate with in-house teams and external vendors.
- Plan and execute trials, fitments, and pilot builds.
- Generate DVP (Design Validation Plan), DFMEA, PFMEA, and related NPD documents.




- Improve designs based on testing, feedback, and production learnings.

1. Certification & Compliance

- Coordinate for testing and certification with agencies like – ARAI / VRDE / ICAT / RDSO / DGQA / Navy / DGCA (depending on seat type).
- Prepare documentation needed for homologation or qualification.
- Ensure compliance with relevant standards (AIS, BIS, RDSO manuals, etc.).
- Track certification timelines and manage corrective actions, if any.

1. Documentation & Reporting

- Maintain project timelines, revision history, ECNs, drawing releases.
- Prepare project tracker reports for management and customer reviews.
- Maintain clear documentation for smooth handover to production.

Qualifications

- Degree in Mechanical / Automobile Engineering.
- 6–8 years of experience in automotive or seating industry.

Required Skills

- Strong knowledge of 3D CAD tools (SolidWorks / Creo / Catia).
- Experience with mechanisms, kinematics, ergonomics, and material selection.
- Understanding of testing, certification, and industry standards.
- Positive communication skills for customer-facing discussions.
- Ability to handle multiple projects and deliver under timelines.
