Experience: MSc / M. Tech in Geology or Applied Geology from a UGC/AICTE-recognised institution, with 8-10 years in hard-rock mineral exploration.
Role Overview
This role takes them from a prospectivity map to mapped ground, logged core, assayed intervals and a defensible resource estimate, running from reconnaissance (G4) through general exploration (G2) and beyond.
You will lead exploration programme design and field execution: mapping campaigns, drilling supervision, sampling and QA/QC regimes, geological modelling, resource estimation, and Geological Reports prepared under MEMC Rules. You will be the first exploration geologist in this programme and will build the field team behind you.
The role carries a regulatory mandate alongside the technical one. Under the MMDR Amendment Act 2021, private agencies may be notified by the Ministry of Mines to undertake prospecting operations, subject to QCI-NABET accreditation. We are pursuing Category A accreditation, which requires a full-time in-house Technical Area Expert (Geology). That is this position, with a path to Project Coordinator as your reporting record with us builds.
Responsibilities
- Exploration Programme Design Design exploration programmes conforming to MEMC Rules, covering borehole and pitting density, sampling protocols, and stage-gating from reconnaissance (G4) through prospecting (G3) to general exploration (G2), and write the proposals that go to NMET or the concerned State Government for sanction.
Translate the targets coming out of our prospectivity models into an executable ground programme, and push back when the model is asking for something the geology won't support.
- Field Execution Lead reconnaissance, large-scale and detailed geological mapping across project blocks.
Supervise coring and non-coring drilling operations end to end: borehole planning, rig siting, core barrel orientation, azimuth and inclination control, downhole surveys, and the daily judgement calls that decide whether a programme produces usable data or expensive rubble.
Maintain field log books and site records to auditable standard, and hold the team to the same.
- Sampling, QA/QC Data Integrity Design and enforce QA/QC protocols across all data types, not only assays: standards, blanks, duplicates, chain of custody, sample preservation and transport, laboratory round-robins.
Own core logging standards, RQD and physico-mechanical testing, petrographic and mineralogical sub-sampling, and the discipline that makes a dataset auditable years later.
- Modelling Resource Estimation Build geological models and cross-sections that delineate the ore body, and carry them through to resource estimation and classification under MEMC Rules and UNFC, with a working understanding of JORC where our investors and partners expect it.
Set cut-off grades with a defensible view of mineral economics.
- Working Across the Team Feed field observations back into petrogenetic and structural models rather than treating them as one-way instructions. When drilling contradicts the model, you are the person who says so first.
Work with our data and ML teams so that everything you generate in the field lands in the warehouse structured, validated and provenance-tracked, rather than in a folder of PDFs.
- Reporting Author Geological Reports to MEMC standard, and take them through review with NMET or the State Government.
- Regulatory Accreditation Serve as our in-house Technical Area Expert (Geology) under the QCI-NABET scheme, and maintain that standing through surveillance and re-accreditation cycles.
Own the technical substance of our accreditation: field investigation protocols, laboratory arrangements with NABL-accredited or Government-recognised labs, and the exploration procedures within our Quality Management System.
- Building the Team Recruit and mentor field geologists and junior team members, building the bench that carries the programme as it scales.
What We're Looking For
Essential
- MSc or M. Tech in Geology or Applied Geology from a UGC/AICTE-recognised University or Institution. This is a statutory requirement of the accreditation scheme and cannot be waived.
- 8-10 years of professional experience in mineral exploration, of which at least 5 years on the commodity class you'd be leading here: magmatic Ni-Cu-PGE sulfide systems, layered mafic-ultramafic intrusions, or rare-metal granite/pegmatite (Li-Sn-W-Ta) systems.
- Documented, verifiable contribution to Geological Reports or their equivalent, supported by evidence of your role.
- Deep hands-on drilling supervision experience.
Not oversight from a project office; time on the pad.
- Fluent in the regulatory frame: MMDR Act and its amendments, MEMC Rules 2015/2021, UNFC classification, and what a G-level actually obliges you to demonstrate.
- Proficiency in geological mapping, core logging, cross-section construction and ore body modelling, with working command of at least one of Micromine, Surpac, Leapfrog, Datamine, Minex or Vulcan, plus GIS (ArcGIS/QGIS).
- Willingness to spend reliable time in the field, in remote and logistically difficult terrain, for extended stretches.
Valued
- Prior involvement in a NABET AEA accreditation, or approval as a TAE or Project Coordinator under any NABET scheme.
- Experience running NMET-funded projects, or working with State DGMs, GSI or IBM on report review and approval.
- Greenfield discovery experience, as opposed to brownfield resource conversion. We are looking for people who have found something, not only measured it.
- Comfort reading geophysical and geochemical outputs well enough to argue with the specialists.
