Assistant Manager – Australian Accounting & Financial Reporting
Department: Financial Reporting
Experience: 6–10 Years (Australian Accounting)

About the Role
We are looking for an experienced and motivated Assistant Manager – Australian Accounting & Financial Reporting to join our growing Financial Reporting team.
The successful candidate will have strong experience in Australian accounting, taxation, financial reporting, compliance, client management, and team leadership. This role will involve managing key client relationships, reviewing financial statements and tax returns, overseeing a team of accounting professionals, and working closely with Directors to deliver high-quality services.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage key Australian clients and maintain strong, professional client relationships.
- Lead and manage a team of 10–15 accounting professionals, providing guidance, mentoring, and performance support.
- Review and finalize Australian financial statements and tax returns prepared by team members.
- Review financial statements and tax returns for:
- Companies / Pty Ltd
- Family Trusts
- Partnerships
- Individuals
- Perform quality control and final reviews of compliance assignments.
- Review and resolve accounting and taxation queries raised by team members and clients.
- Work closely with Directors to ensure exceptional client service and timely delivery.
- Identify potential audit and compliance issues and work with clients and internal teams to resolve them.
- Review General Ledger, reconciliations, and accounting records for accuracy and compliance.
- Review GST, PAYG Withholding and PAYG Instalment reconciliations.
- Review and assess Division 7A transactions and compliance.
- Review Inter-Entity Loans and related-party transactions.
- Review Hire Purchase Loans and associated accounting treatment.
- Customize and publish financial reports according to client requirements.
- Ensure compliance with Australian accounting and taxation regulations and keep up to date with relevant tax law changes.
- Follow and maintain the Manual Procedure Guide (MPG) and ensure team adherence to established processes.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement, automation, and workflow optimization.
- Contribute to the design and implementation of improved accounting and reporting processes.
- Conduct weekly training, development, and mentoring sessions for junior and intermediate team members.
- Support the growth and development of the Financial Reporting team.
- Oversee the work of less-experienced team members and provide constructive feedback.
- Participate in internal and external training and career development activities.
- Take ownership of assigned workflows and ensure deadlines and quality standards are consistently met.
- Collaborate with other teams and internal divisions to meet client requirements.
Required Skills & Experience
- 6–10 years of relevant experience in Australian accounting, taxation, and financial reporting.
- Robust experience in Australian tax compliance and financial reporting.
- Hands-on experience managing and reviewing:
- Individual Tax Returns
- Company / Pty Ltd Tax Returns
- Trust Tax Returns
- Partnership Tax Returns
- Financial Statements
- Strong understanding of Australian accounting and taxation compliance requirements.
- Experience in reviewing work prepared by accounting team members.
- Proven team management and mentoring experience, preferably managing a team of 10–15 members.
- Strong client management and relationship-building skills.
- Sound technical knowledge of Australian tax laws and accounting standards.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent attention to detail and quality-control skills.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned responsibilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong working knowledge of MS Office, particularly Word and Excel.
- Stable employment history with a demonstrated track record of progression and responsibility.
Preferred Software Experience
Experience with any of the following accounting and workflow platforms will be an advantage:
- Xero
- QuickBooks Online (QBO)
- MYOB
- Recon Elite
- Hubdoc
- Dext
- Asana
Candidates with strong Australian accounting experience are encouraged to apply even if they have not worked on all of the above software platforms.
Qualifications
Postgraduate qualification such as MBA / M.Com / CWA / equivalent in Commerce, Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Relevant professional accounting qualifications will be an added advantage.
