Position : Assistant Vice President – Engineering
Location: Chennai
About the Company: We are hiring on behalf of our Client, a prominent Domestic Hotel Brand with a strong presence in the Leisure segment across India . The Organisation operates a sizeable portfolio of properties, including Owned and Managed Properties, and is committed to delivering high-quality Guest Experiences through strong operational and engineering standards.
About The Role:
The AVP – Engineering will provide leadership for Engineering, Maintenance and Technical Operations across the Company's multi-property portfolio . The role will be responsible for ensuring reliable operation of hotel engineering systems, statutory and safety compliance, maintenance standards, project execution, energy efficiency and cost optimisation.
The position will work closely with General Managers, Operations and Corporate stakeholders and will provide technical leadership to engineering teams across properties. The role will also oversee major renovations, refurbishments, upgrades and new-property/project handovers.
Key Responsibilities:
Engineering Operations
- Lead engineering and maintenance operations across multiple hotel and resort properties.
- Establish and continuously improve engineering policies, procedures, SOPs and maintenance standards.
- Oversee critical hotel systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing & water, refrigeration, fire & life safety and other mechanical infrastructure.
- Ensure effective implementation of TPM, PPM and daily maintenance activities.
- Conduct regular inspections to ensure safety, reliability and operational readiness.
- Identify and resolve potential safety hazards and implement appropriate risk-mitigation measures.
- Ensure engineering records, equipment histories, asset documentation and maintenance records are properly maintained.
Projects, Sustainability & Compliance
- Lead renovation, refurbishment, upgrade and new-installation projects across properties.
- Ensure projects are delivered within approved timelines, specifications and budgets.
- Drive sustainability, energy conservation and resource-efficiency initiatives.
- Monitor utility consumption and identify opportunities for reducing energy and operational costs.
- Ensure compliance with applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.
Team Leadership
- Lead, mentor and develop Chief Engineers and Engineering teams across the portfolio.
- Support manpower planning, recruitment, deployment and onboarding of engineering personnel.
- Establish training programmes covering technical skills, preventive maintenance, safety, statutory compliance and emergency response.
- Drive consistency in engineering standards and best practices across properties.
Financial & Vendor Management
- Oversee Engineering budgets, forecasting, reporting and cost-control initiatives.
- Optimise utilisation of engineering resources without compromising safety, quality or guest comfort.
- Manage procurement and inventory of engineering tools, spares, consumables and equipment.
- Evaluate and manage vendors, service providers and contractors, ensuring quality, competitive pricing and timely delivery.
- Review AMCs, service contracts and vendor performance periodically.
Stakeholder Management
- Partner closely with General Managers and Operations teams at both Hotel and Corporate levels.
- Provide regular updates on engineering performance, projects, risks, compliance and operational concerns.
- Act as the key engineering interface for internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensure smooth coordination during maintenance, upgrades, renovations and project execution.
Travel & Project Requirement: The role involves extensive travel across hotel and resort locations . During major renovations, project handovers, upgrades or new-property commissioning, the incumbent should be prepared to stay at project locations for extended periods to oversee execution, resolve technical issues, coordinate stakeholders, complete inspections and snag rectification, and ensure successful testing, commissioning and handover.
Qualification & Experience
- Graduate Engineers (Mechanical/Electrical/MEP) with 15-20 years experience at Regional/Corporate level in Engineering/ Maintenance within Hospitality Industry / Hotels / Resorts .
- Robust Multi-Property Engineering leadership and operational experience.
- Proven ability to manage engineering standards across geographically distributed hotel/resort operations.
- Strong project execution and technical problem-solving capabilities.
- Sound understanding of statutory, safety and engineering compliance requirements.
- Strong focus on energy management, sustainability and utility optimisation.
- Demonstrated budgeting, cost-control and resource-management capabilities.
- Strong vendor, contractor and stakeholder-management skills.
- High ownership, accountability and decision-making ability.
- Willingness to travel extensively and stay at project locations when required.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills.
