Role Description The Managing Counsel role is a full-time, on-site position based in Pune, responsible for providing strategic legal guidance and support across Cummins India’s businesses. This role involves advising on commercial contracts, corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and risk management, while ensuring alignment with global and local legal standards. Daily responsibilities include drafting and reviewing agreements, guiding negotiations, overseeing dispute resolution and litigation management, and partnering with internal stakeholders such as business leaders, HR, finance, and operations.

Counsel will develop and implement legal policies and processes, conduct legal training for internal teams, and monitor changes in laws and regulations affecting the company. The role also requires coordination with external counsel, supporting cross-border transactions, and contributing to ethical business practices and a robust compliance culture.

Qualifications

- Strong expertise in corporate and commercial law, including contract drafting, negotiation, and governance.
- Experience in regulatory compliance, risk management, and policy development within industrial or manufacturing sectors.
- Proficiency in litigation management, dispute resolution, and coordination with external legal counsel.
- Advanced legal research, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to provide clear, practical advice.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to brief senior leadership and draft precise legal documents.
- Demonstrated leadership and stakeholder management abilities, with experience guiding cross-functional teams.
- Ability to work on-site in Pune, manage multiple matters simultaneously, and operate with high integrity and confidentiality.
- Bachelor’s degree in Law (LL.B) from a recognized institution; LL.M or specialized qualifications in corporate/commercial law are an added advantage.
- Significant post-qualification experience in-house or at a law firm, preferably supporting large industrial or automotive organizations.
