Key Responsibilities
Analyze manuscripts to identify significant concepts, terms, names, and themes for indexing.
Create structured, consistent, and comprehensive indexes following publisher guidelines.
Develop appropriate headings, subheadings, cross-references, and logical hierarchy.
Ensure indexing aligns with publisher-specific styles.
Coordinate with editors and production teams for queries and clarifications.
Review page proofs to ensure accuracy of locator references.
Maintain deadlines while delivering clean, accurate, and user-friendly indexes.
Adapt indexing approach based on subject matter and complexity (STM, Medical).
Perform quality checks to ensure consistency, completeness, and usability.

Required Skills & Competencies
Excellent command of English and solid analytical thinking.
Ability to identify and categorize concepts logically.




High attention to detail and consistency.
Familiarity with indexing standards and controlled vocabularies.
Knowledge of indexing tools/software (e.g. Cindex, etc.).
Comfort working with academic, scientific, or technical content (depending on domain).
Solid time-management skills and ability to work on multiple assignments.

Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Life Sciences background.
3–5 years of indexing experience preferred.

Preferred Experience
Experience indexing for STM publishers, educational books, or academic journals.
Understanding of publishing workflows and production schedules.
Ability to work with PDFs, Word documents, and publishing platforms.
