Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Fresher Medical Coder to join our Medical Coding & Billing department. As a Medical Coder, you will be responsible for reviewing healthcare documentation, accurately assigning diagnosis and procedure codes using standardized coding systems (ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS), and ensuring compliance with coding guidelines and healthcare regulations. This position offers an excellent chance for recent graduates or career changers to develop expertise in medical coding while contributing to accurate healthcare billing and patient record management.

Key Responsibilities
Review and analyze medical documentation, including physician notes, test results, and surgical reports
Accurately assign ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes based on diagnoses and procedures documented in patient records
Ensure all coding meets compliance standards and healthcare regulations (HIPAA, AMA guidelines, payer requirements)
Identify and query incomplete or unclear documentation with healthcare providers
Maintain accurate and organized medical records
Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay current with coding guidelines and system updates




Meet established productivity and quality standards
Assist in audit processes and provide coding support as needed
Collaborate with clinical and billing teams to resolve coding discrepancies
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management, Medical Coding, or related field OR certification completion (CPC, CCS, or equivalent)
Robust knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems
Understanding of medical terminology and anatomy
Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills
Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) and coding software
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance

Preferred Qualifications
AAPC CPC (Certified Qualified Coder) or AHIMA CCS certification
Experience with revenue cycle management
Familiarity with hospital billing workflows
Knowledge of healthcare compliance regulations
Internship or volunteer experience in medical coding or healthcare settings
