Shift Engineer – Data Center Operations & Maintenance

Roles and Responsibilities

A Shift Engineer in a Data Center is responsible for ensuring the continuous availability, reliability, and efficiency of critical infrastructure systems that support IT operations.

1. Data Center Operations

- Monitor and operate critical facilities equipment 24x7.
- Ensure uninterrupted operation of power, cooling, and environmental systems.
- Perform regular checks on data center infrastructure and record operational parameters.
- Respond to alarms, alerts, and system abnormalities promptly.
- Maintain uptime in accordance with SLA and operational standards.

2. Electrical Systems Management

- Monitor and maintain:
- UPS systems
- DG (Diesel Generator) sets
- LT/HT panels
- Transformers
- Battery banks
- Power Distribution Units (PDUs)
- Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance activities.
- Ensure electrical safety compliance.

3. Mechanical Systems Management

- Monitor and maintain:
- CRAC/CRAH units
- Chillers
- Cooling towers
- HVAC systems
- Pumps and piping systems




- Track temperature and humidity levels within acceptable limits.
- Coordinate corrective maintenance during system failures.

4. Preventive & Corrective Maintenance

- Execute scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) activities.
- Coordinate with vendors and service providers for maintenance work.
- Troubleshoot equipment faults and restore services quickly.
- Maintain maintenance records and reports.

5. Incident Management

- Attend critical alarms and emergencies immediately.
- Perform first-level troubleshooting.
- Escalate issues according to escalation matrix.
- Prepare incident reports and root cause analysis (RCA) documentation.

6. Monitoring and Reporting

- Monitor BMS, DCIM, EMS, and SCADA systems.
- Record operational readings and shift logs.
- Generate daily, weekly, and monthly reports.
- Maintain asset and maintenance documentation.

Qualification: DEEE,BE(EEE)
Minimum-5 Years
