ROLE SUMMARY

The Senior Instructional Designer, Quality Assurance, is responsible for ensuring that Starweavers courses meet a consistently high standard of instructional quality, content accuracy, visual quality, and production readiness.

The role serves as a key quality checkpoint across client courses, including IBM and Starweaver Originals. The Senior Instructional Designer QA reviews courses, storyboards, scripts, assessments, and learning experiences to identify gaps, inconsistencies, and quality issues before launch.

In addition to conducting detailed QA, the role supports the implementation and continuous improvement of QA standards, provides constructive feedback to instructional and production teams, and helps onboard and coach team members on instructional design and quality expectations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Instructional & Learning Design Quality

- Review course coverage to ensure that all content maps appropriately to the stated learning objectives, with no significant gaps or unnecessary off-topic content.
- Verify that learning objectives are measurable, appropriately scoped, and pitched at the right cognitive level for the target audience.
- Evaluate modules and lessons for logical sequencing, ensuring that concepts are appropriately scaffolded and build upon one another.
- Ensure content depth and complexity are appropriate for the declared course level and target audience.
- Validate constructive alignment between learning objectives, content, activities, and assessments.
- Review cognitive load, chunking, pacing, and information flow to ensure an effective learner experience.
- Identify instructional design issues and provide explicit, actionable recommendations for improvement.

Content Accuracy & Integrity

- Review the technical and factual accuracy of the course content prior to launch.
- Check for terminology consistency across scripts, slides, storyboards, assessments, and supplementary materials.
- Verify that examples, case studies, statistics, and references are current, relevant, and appropriately attributed.
- Identify factual inconsistencies, unsupported claims, and content gaps, and ensure they are addressed before release.

Visual & Media Quality

- Review visual design against Starweavers brand and template standards, including layout, typography, color, consistency, and visual hierarchy.
- Verify that on-screen text (OST) accurately reflects the voiceover and is free from errors.
- Review animations, transitions, graphics, and visual treatments for relevance, polish, timing, and alignment with the instructional intent.




- Check video and audio production quality, including framing, lighting, audio levels, clarity, and overall presentation quality.
- Review accessibility requirements, including captions, alt text, color contrast, readable font sizes, and other applicable standards.

Instructional Delivery Quality

- Assess pacing and instructor delivery against Starweavers presentation and instructional standards.
- Review the effectiveness, clarity, and learner-friendliness of instructional delivery.
- Identify opportunities to improve engagement, explanation, emphasis, and overall learning experience.

Assessment Quality

- Review quizzes and assessments for alignment with learning objectives, appropriate difficulty, and balanced coverage.
- Evaluate individual questions for clarity, relevance, and appropriate cognitive level.
- Ensure questions have a single defensible correct answer and that distractors are plausible and meaningful.
- Identify issues such as ambiguity, duplication, excessive difficulty, or insufficient coverage.

Storyboard Quality Control

- Perform detailed quality control of IBM and other client storyboards against approved scripts, layouts, and format standards.
- Verify visual instructions, animation cues, section syncing, and branding compliance across frames.
- Ensure storyboard instructions are sufficiently clear and accurate for downstream production teams.
- Identify inconsistencies between scripts, storyboards, visuals, and production instructions.

QA Standards, Process & Sign-Off

- Apply established QA checklists, rubrics, standards, and standard operating procedures consistently across projects.
- Contribute to the development and refinement of QA checklists, rubrics, guidelines, and processes.
- Ensure courses meet applicable client-specific requirements, including IBM brand and content standards, as well as Starweavers' internal quality standards.
- Review technical and LMS requirements, including SCORM packaging, playback, and file standards, as applicable to the role.
- Complete QA reviews and provide clear recommendations and required revisions before launch.




- Provide quality approval/sign-off for assigned projects in accordance with Starweavers QA process and escalation structure.

Team Coaching & Knowledge Sharing

- Support the onboarding of new instructional designers and production team members by helping them understand QA and instructional design expectations.
- Coach and provide constructive feedback to team members to improve the quality of their work.
- Share best practices, recurring quality issues, and lessons learned with the wider team.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of QA training materials, guidelines, and reference documentation.

Experience Studies & Continuous Improvement

- 6+ years of core Instructional Design (ID) experience, with a strong background in developing and reviewing e-learning content, storyboards, and assessments.
- Participate in or conduct experience studies on selected projects to evaluate learner experience and course effectiveness.
- Review learner feedback and available performance data to identify recurring issues and opportunities for improvement.
- Identify patterns in QA findings and recommend practical improvements to course design and production processes.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and benchmarking against relevant industry practices.

Reporting & Stakeholder Coordination

- Track defects, revisions, and QA findings across assigned projects.
- Maintain clear documentation of QA feedback and ensure issues are communicated to the appropriate stakeholders.
- Collaborate closely with instructional designers, content developers, visual designers, production teams, and project stakeholders to resolve quality issues efficiently.
- Escalate significant or recurring quality issues to the Head of Instructional Design or relevant functional lead.
- Communicate QA findings clearly, constructively, and with a focus on improving the final learner experience.
