Position: Special Educator
Specialization: Hearing Impairment (HI) & Intellectual Disability (ID)
About the Role
We are looking for a passionate, responsible, and child-friendly Special Educator with expertise in Hearing Impairment (HI) and/or Intellectual Disability (ID) to provide individualized educational intervention, developmental support, and functional learning programs for children with special educational needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct educational and developmental assessments based on the child's individual needs.
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
- Provide one-to-one and small-group special education sessions.
- Plan individualized academic, functional, social, communication, and life-skill interventions.
- Work with children with Hearing Impairment (HI), Intellectual Disability (ID), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, Learning Disabilities (LD), Global Developmental Delay (GDD), and other developmental needs.
- Develop academic skills including reading, writing, spelling, mathematics, comprehension, and functional academics.
- Develop attention, memory, cognitive, communication, social, and classroom-readiness skills.
- For children with Hearing Impairment, use appropriate communication and educational strategies, including visual learning, auditory-verbal support where applicable, sign language/Indian Sign Language (ISL), and other suitable communication methods based on the child's needs and qualifications.
- For children with Intellectual Disability, focus on functional academics, adaptive skills, daily living skills,
social skills, vocational readiness, and independent functioning.
- Use visual aids, activity-based learning, multisensory techniques, worksheets, structured teaching, and individualized teaching materials.
- Monitor and document each child's progress regularly.
- Maintain accurate IEPs, session notes, assessment records, progress reports, and parent communication records.
- Provide parents with appropriate home-based activities and strategies.
- Coordinate with Speech Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, Physiotherapists, and other professionals as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Participate in case discussions, team meetings, parent consultations, and professional development activities.
- Maintain professional confidentiality and follow centre policies and ethical standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's / Master's degree in Special Education, preferably with specialization in:
- Hearing Impairment (HI)
- Intellectual Disability (ID)
- RCI registration is preferred/required as applicable to the position.
- Candidates with relevant special-education certifications and practical experience are encouraged to apply.
- Freshers with appropriate qualifications are welcome.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of special education principles and child development.
- Knowledge of HI and ID-specific educational approaches.
- Ability to develop and implement individualized intervention plans.
- Patient, empathetic, and child-friendly approach.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work with children having different developmental and learning needs.
- Strong documentation and progress-monitoring skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Professional attitude, punctuality, and willingness to learn.
