Python Backend Consultant (Data Engineering & Data Pipelines) Employment Type: 6–12-month contract Experience Level: Mid-Level to Senior-Level Pay: $15-$22/hr USD Job Summary BCI is seeking a skilled contract Python Backend Developer to design, develop, and maintain scalable backend systems and data pipelines. Please note: This will be a 6-12 month contract. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in Python, integrating data from multiple sources, and developing reliable, high-performance backend services that support analytics, reporting, and machine learning initiatives. This role requires expertise in Python, cloud technologies, databases, API development, and modern data engineering practices. Key Responsibilities Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines for processing large volumes of structured and unstructured data. Develop backend services and APIs using Python-based frameworks. Integrate data from databases, third-party APIs, cloud storage, and enterprise applications. Monitor pipeline performance, troubleshoot failures, and implement solutions to improve reliability. Implement data quality checks, validation rules, and automated testing processes. Collaborate with data analysts, data scientists, and business stakeholders to understand data requirements. Optimize database queries and data models for effective processing and retrieval. Deploy and maintain applications and pipelines in cloud environments. Create technical documentation,



maintain coding standards, and best practices. Participate in code reviews and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or related field. A minimum of 5 years of experience in Python backend development. Strong proficiency in hands on development with Python and object-oriented programming. Bash/Shell Scripting Hands-on experience with SQL and relational databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, or MongoDB. Experience with data processing libraries such as Pandas and NumPy. RESTful API development using FastAPI, Flask, or Django. Familiarity with version control systems, particularly Git. Strong troubleshooting, debugging, and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and collaboration skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience with orchestration tools such as Apache Airflow, Prefect, or Dagster. Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS (Preferred), Azure, or Google Cloud Platform. Knowledge of data warehousing technologies such as Snowflake, BigQuery, or Redshift. Experience with containerization technologies including Docker and Kubernetes. Familiarity with distributed data processing frameworks such as Apache Spark. Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices. Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
