- Key ResponsibilitiesIdentify and evaluate suppliers for raw materials, components, spare parts, consumables, and engineering items.
- Review drawings, BOMs, specifications, and technical requirements before purchasing.
- Prepare and issue RFQs (Request for Quotation) to suppliers.
- Compare supplier quotations based on price, quality, lead time, payment terms, and technical compliance.
- Negotiate price, delivery schedules, payment terms, and commercial conditions.
- Prepare and release Purchase Orders (POs).
- Follow up with suppliers to ensure on-time delivery.
- Coordinate with Production, Quality, Stores, Design, Maintenance, and Accounts.
- Develop alternate suppliers and maintain an approved supplier base.
- Monitor supplier performance regarding quality, cost, and delivery.
- Handle material shortages, delayed deliveries, quality issues, and purchase-related discrepancies.
- Support cost-reduction and value-engineering initiatives.




- Maintain purchasing records, supplier quotations, POs, and other procurement documentation.
- Use ERP/MRP systems for material planning, purchasing, inventory, and order tracking.

Technical KnowledgeA Purchase Engineer should ideally understand:

- Engineering drawings and specifications
- BOM (Bill of Materials)
- Mechanical/electrical components
- Raw materials such as steel, aluminium, copper, plastics, etc.
- Machining, fabrication, casting, forging, sheet-metal processes
- Fasteners, bearings, motors, pumps, valves, electrical components, etc.

- Basic costing and manufacturing processes
