To lead and manage all environmental activities of the RCC Dam and Hydro Electric Project, ensuring compliance with applicable environmental laws, statutory approvals, project-specific environmental conditions, and contractual requirements. The position will be responsible for environmental planning, monitoring, reporting, mitigation measures, regulatory coordination, and implementation of the project's Environmental Management Plan (EMP).

Key Responsibilities

1. Environmental Compliance & Regulatory Management

- Ensure compliance with applicable environmental laws, rules, regulations, permits and statutory requirements.
- Monitor compliance with Environmental Clearance (EC) and other applicable environmental permissions and conditions.
- Maintain records of statutory approvals, consents, permits and environmental compliance.
- Coordinate with regulatory authorities and government departments on environmental matters.
- Ensure timely submission of environmental compliance reports and statutory returns.

2. Environmental Management Plan

- Develop, implement and periodically review the Environmental Management Plan (EMP) for the project.
- Establish environmental procedures and control measures for construction activities.
- Ensure implementation of mitigation measures related to air, water, noise, soil, waste, ecology and biodiversity.
- Identify environmental risks associated with dam, tunnel, powerhouse, roads, quarry, muck disposal and other project activities.

3. Environmental Monitoring

- Establish and monitor environmental parameters including:

- Ambient air quality

- Water quality

- Noise levels

- Soil quality

- Surface and groundwater

- Waste generation and disposal

- Dust and emissions
- Review environmental monitoring reports and initiate corrective actions wherever required.
- Coordinate with NABL/accredited laboratories and environmental consultants, wherever applicable.

4. Construction Environmental Management

- Monitor environmental impacts arising from excavation, blasting, concreting, crushing, batching plants, tunnelling, road construction and material transportation.
- Ensure proper management of construction debris, muck, hazardous waste and other wastes.
- Monitor muck disposal areas and ensure compliance with approved disposal plans.
- Ensure proper dust suppression and control of construction-related emissions.




- Monitor drainage, erosion and sedimentation control measures.

5. Water & Wastewater Management

- Monitor water abstraction, consumption and discharge.
- Ensure proper operation and monitoring of sewage treatment and wastewater treatment facilities.
- Implement measures for prevention of contamination of rivers, streams and groundwater.
- Monitor water conservation and recycling initiatives at project facilities.

6. Biodiversity & Ecological Management

- Monitor environmental impacts on forests, wildlife, aquatic ecology and biodiversity, where applicable.
- Ensure implementation of approved biodiversity and ecological management measures.
- Coordinate with forestry and wildlife authorities wherever required.
- Monitor compliance related to compensatory afforestation, catchment-area treatment and other environmental management programmes, where applicable.

7. Quarry, Crusher & Muck Management

- Monitor environmental compliance at quarry, crusher, screening and batching plant areas.
- Ensure proper control of dust, noise, wastewater and material spillage.
- Monitor slope stabilization, drainage and rehabilitation of quarry and disposal areas.
- Ensure implementation of approved muck disposal and reclamation measures.

8. Environmental Audits & Inspections

- Conduct regular environmental inspections and audits across the project site.
- Identify non-compliances and prepare corrective and preventive action plans.
- Track closure of environmental observations and maintain compliance registers.
- Participate in internal, client, consultant and regulatory environmental audits.

9. Documentation & Reporting

- Prepare daily, weekly, monthly and periodic environmental reports.
- Maintain environmental registers, monitoring records and compliance documentation.
- Prepare presentations and reports for Project Head, Corporate Office, client and statutory authorities.
- Maintain records of environmental incidents, corrective actions and regulatory correspondence.

Contractor & Subcontractor Management

- Ensure contractors and subcontractors comply with project environmental requirements.
- Review environmental plans and method statements submitted by contractors.
- Conduct contractor environmental inspections and toolbox/training sessions.
- Monitor environmental performance of construction agencies and service providers.

11. Environmental Awareness & Training

- Conduct environmental awareness programmes for employees, workmen and contractors.
- Develop training programmes covering waste management, pollution prevention, water conservation and environmental protection.
- Promote good environmental practices across project operations.

12. Incident & Emergency Management

- Investigate environmental incidents such as oil/chemical spills, wastewater discharge, pollution and other environmental emergencies.
- Develop and implement environmental emergency response procedures.
- Ensure immediate containment, reporting, investigation and corrective action.

13. Coordination

- Coordinate with Project Head, Construction, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, QA/QC, EHS, Contracts and other departments.
- Liaise with client representatives, consultants, statutory authorities and environmental agencies.
- Coordinate with Corporate Workplace/EHS team for project-level compliance and reporting.

- 100% compliance with applicable environmental approvals and statutory requirements.
- Effective implementation of the Environmental Management Plan.
- Timely environmental monitoring and reporting.
- Proper management of muck, waste, wastewater and hazardous materials.

Qualification

- Bachelor's/Master's Degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, .

Experience

- 1215 years of relevant experience, preferably in large infrastructure, Hydro Electric, Dam, Tunnelling, RCC Dam, Power or major construction projects.
- Experience in environmental compliance, EC conditions, environmental monitoring and regulatory coordination is preferred.
