About Runable:
Runable builds software that helps small and medium businesses grow — the tooling, automation, and workflows that let a lean team operate like a much larger one. Our users are business owners and operators, not power users of software, so how clear the product feels decides whether it gets adopted at all.
The Role:
We are hiring a UI/UX Designer to own the experience of what we ship — from the messy problem to the pixels engineers build against. You will do both halves of the job: the thinking that decides what a screen should do, and the craft that makes it look like it was designed on purpose.
This is a small team, so you will own product areas outright rather than decorating someone else's flows. Expect to sit with real customer problems, work directly with engineers, and see your designs live within weeks. Our users are non-technical and time-poor — every unnecessary step you remove is the actual output of this role.
What You'll Do:
- Own end-to-end design for product areas: problem framing, user flows, wireframes, high-fidelity UI, and prototypes.
- Turn vague requests and customer pain into clear, shippable design solutions with a defensible rationale.
- Design for clarity over cleverness — our users are SMB operators who need to get one thing done fast.
- Build and extend our design system: components, patterns, tokens, and documentation that keep the product coherent.
- Work directly with engineers through implementation, reviewing builds and fixing the gap between design and shipped UI.
- Prototype interactions and motion where static screens cannot answer the question.
- Run lightweight research and usability testing — talk to users, watch them struggle, change the design.
- Use analytics and session data to find where people drop off, then design and measure the fix.
- Design responsive interfaces that hold up across desktop and mobile, with accessibility treated as a default.
- Contribute to marketing and brand surfaces when needed — landing pages, in-product education, and launch assets.
Requirements:
- 4–8 years designing digital products, with a portfolio of shipped work — not concept pieces.
- Currently managing a design team of at least 2–4 people, with direct responsibility for their work and growth.
- Strong UI craft: layout, typography, hierarchy, colour, and spacing discipline you can explain rather than eyeball.
- Genuine UX ability: you can map a flow, simplify a process, and justify structure with user reasoning.
- Expert in Figma — components, auto-layout, variants, and prototypes that engineers can actually work from.
- Experience designing SaaS, dashboards, or complex workflow tools where information density is a real problem.
- Working understanding of front-end constraints and comfortable collaborating closely with engineers.
- Experience building or contributing to a design system.
- Comfortable using AI tools to move faster — exploring directions, generating assets, and cutting production time.
- Able to present and defend design decisions to founders and engineers, and to change your mind when the argument is better.
- Self-driven in a low-process environment: you find the problems worth designing for instead of waiting for tickets.
Nice to Have:
- Startup experience where you were the only or first designer.
- Experience designing for non-technical or SMB audiences.
- Interaction and motion design skill (Rive, Lottie, After Effects, or Figma's motion tooling).
- Ability to build with front-end code or AI app builders to ship straightforward things yourself.
- Illustration, iconography, or brand design range.
- Exposure to AI-native product patterns — chat, agents, generative interfaces.
Why Runable:
- Real ownership: your design decisions ship, and you see how SMB customers respond within weeks.
- Small team, high leverage — design quality is a company-level differentiator here, not a finishing step.
- Direct access to founders and customers; short feedback loops, minimal process.
- Room to shape the design system and the product's visual direction as we scale.
- Compensation is benchmarked to experience and impact, and discussed openly in the first conversation.
