Role: Technical Writer (Remote) Location: Remote (Work from Anywhere) Role Overview:
We are hiring for one of our clients, seeking a Senior Do D Staff Writing SME to work on a Full time basis. The role involves producing and refining technical documentation aligned with Department of Defense (Do D) standards and compliance requirements. The position supports delivery of mission-critical systems through clear and accurate written deliverables.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, review, and maintain Do D-compliant technical documentation including system specifications, interface control documents, and user manuals. Ensure all deliverables meet Do D standards such as MIL-STD-499, Do D 5000 series, and related frameworks. Collaborate with engineers, program managers, and compliance teams to align documentation with system requirements and stakeholder needs. Conduct technical reviews and incorporate feedback to improve clarity, accuracy, and compliance of documentation. Provide subject matter expertise in Do D documentation processes to internal and external stakeholders.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Technical Writing, Engineering, or related field; advanced degree preferred. Minimum of 7 years of experience in technical writing with at least 4 years focused on Do D documentation standards. Demonstrated expertise in MIL-STD-499, Do D 5000 series,
or similar compliance frameworks. Strong working knowledge of systems engineering principles and lifecycle documentation. Proven ability to write clearly for technical and non-technical audiences in defense and aerospace contexts.
Experience with configuration management tools such as DOORS or Jama Connect. Familiarity with software development lifecycle (SDLC) documentation in Do D environments. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and documentation authoring tools (e.g., Adobe Frame Maker, Mad Cap Flare). Security clearance eligibility or active clearance strongly preferred. Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple documentation deliverables concurrently. More About the Opportunity:
