Role Overview The Painting Supervisor oversees day-to-day grit blasting, surface preparation, and marine protective coating operations on commercial ships, naval vessels, and offshore structures. This role manages blasting and painting crews, enforces maritime coating standards (such as IMO PSPC, ISO 8501, and SSPC/NACE/AMPP), and coordinates with classification society surveyors to deliver durable, defect-free coatings safely and on schedule.

Key Responsibilities

- Operational Supervision: Plan and direct daily activities for blasting, power tooling, airless spray application, and touch-up crews across dry docks, slipways, and fabrication shops.

- Quality Assurance &
- Standards:

Ensure surface prep (Sa 2.5/WJ-2) and coating application meet customer technical specifications, IMO PSPC guidelines, and paint manufacturer technical data sheets (TDS).

- Environmental &

- Atmospheric Monitoring:

Track ambient conditions—including relative humidity, ambient temperature, steel substrate temperature, and dew point—prior to and during application to prevent premature coating failures.

- Inspection &

- Documentation:





Perform and record stage-wise inspections, including blast profile height, wet film thickness (WFT), dry film thickness (DFT), adhesion, and holiday testing; coordinate witness/hold-point inspections with QA/QC and class surveyors (e.g., IRS, DNV, Lloyd's).

- Resource &

- Material Management:

Calculate paint and grit consumption, monitor inventory levels, prevent material wastage, and maintain blasting pots, spray pumps, dehumidifiers, and safety gear in optimal condition.

- Health, Safety, and Setting (HSE): Enforce strict safety practices for work at heights, hot work boundaries, confined space entries (ballast tanks, void spaces), toxic/VOC vapor ventilation, and proper hazardous waste disposal.

- Experience

- Education: Any qualification can apply

- Experience: 10+ years of hands-on experience in marine grit blasting and protective coatings, with at least 3 to 5 years in a supervisory capacity within a shipyard or heavy marine fabrication yard.
