The Role:

You will lead the design and implementation of the core systems behind the BRAHMO platform — high scale backend services, the clinical verification pipeline, and the data and evaluation infrastructure that proves the product is safe.

This is a hands-on staff role. You will own architecture decisions, set engineering standards, and take complex work from concept to production while writing a large share of the code yourself.

What you will do

- Design and build backend services and APIs in Python, on PostgreSQL, handling clinical audio, speech recognition output, and structured medical data
- Own technical architecture for the verification pipeline: alignment between multiple speech engines, clinical entity extraction, and the evidence model underneath it
- Set and enforce engineering standards in testing, observability, security and documentation, including CI gates that make safety properties impossible to break accidentally
- Review and mentor the work of other engineers, and raise the bar for how the team reasons about correctness
- Diagnose and resolve performance and reliability issues across distributed services and long-running data pipelines
- Build the evaluation infrastructure — corpora, scoring harnesses, regression suites — that turns opinions about accuracy into measured numbers
- Integrate with multiple AI and speech vendors behind clean adapter boundaries, so models can be swapped and results re-scored without rewriting the system
- Work directly with clinicians, product and research to turn real consultation workflows into robust technical design




- Contribute to the long-term technical roadmap and help the platform integrate with hospital systems and Indian health data standards

What we are looking forRequired
- Strong computer science foundation: algorithms, data structures, distributed systems, systems design
- Deep backend engineering experience building reliable, scalable, secure services and APIs in production
- Advanced programming in Python, Go, Java or a comparable modern language, with fluency in CI/CD and modern development tooling
- Solid object oriented design skills and the ability to build maintainable, modular architectures
- Prior experience at senior or staff level, leading technical initiatives and mentoring engineers
- Relational database expertise — schema design, query performance, transactional integrity, multi-tenancy
- Experience integrating AI or ML systems, or working on data platforms, or a strong applied interest in the area
- Comfort in a fast moving startup: ownership, informed trade-offs, and clear communication with non-engineers
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience

- Healthcare or clinical software: EHR, EMR, HL7 FHIR, ABDM, NDHM,



medical terminology
- Speech recognition, NLP, or audio processing pipelines
- Multilingual or Indic language systems, transliteration, code-switched text
- FastAPI, PostgreSQL, Supabase, row level security, event driven architectures
- Building evaluation harnesses, offline scoring systems, or ML measurement infrastructure
- Working with AI coding tools as a daily part of the workflow

How we work, and who this suits We write decisions down. Every architectural choice lives in a register, and changing one requires an argument rather than a commit. Numbers carry their denominators and regenerate on demand; a figure the system cannot reproduce does not exist. When the system is unsure, it says so, and we have turned down approaches that would have looked better in a demo because of it.

This suits an engineer who finds that discipline energising rather than slow. It does not suit someone who wants to ship fast and measure later.

You will use AI tools heavily — we all do. What we are hiring for is the judgement around them.
