Role Overview:
We are hiring for one of our clients, seeking a Senior DoD Staff Writing SME to work on a Full-Time basis. The role involves producing and refining technical documentation aligned with Department of Defense (DoD) standards and compliance requirements. The position supports delivery of mission-critical systems through clear and accurate written deliverables.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, review, and maintain DoD-compliant technical documentation including system specifications, interface control documents, and user manuals.
- Ensure all deliverables meet DoD standards such as MIL-STD-499, DoD 5000 series, and related frameworks.
- Collaborate with engineers, program managers, and compliance teams to align documentation with system requirements and stakeholder needs.
- Conduct technical reviews and incorporate feedback to improve clarity, accuracy, and compliance of documentation.
- Provide subject matter expertise in DoD documentation processes to internal and external stakeholders.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, Engineering, or related field;
advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in technical writing with at least 4 years focused on DoD documentation standards.
- Demonstrated expertise in MIL-STD-499, DoD 5000 series, or similar compliance frameworks.
- Solid working knowledge of systems engineering principles and lifecycle documentation.
- Proven ability to write clearly for technical and non-technical audiences in defense and aerospace contexts.
- Experience with configuration management tools such as DOORS or Jama Connect.
- Familiarity with software development lifecycle (SDLC) documentation in DoD environments.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and documentation authoring tools (e.G., Adobe FrameMaker, MadCap Flare).
