Role Overview

We are proactively building a pipeline of Quality Engineering professionals with strong Energy Domain expertise to support the ongoing Programme. This role requires a tester who understands energy retail/market operations well enough to simulate realistic market and regulatory message flows, and who can support the platform's ongoing testing.

This is a domain-first requirement: strong energy sector knowledge combined with solid QE fundamentals, rather than a purely technical automation hire.

Key Responsibilities

- Design, prepare, and maintain test data required for Kraken platform testing across functional, integration, and regression cycles.
- Simulate market and regulatory messages (e.g., meter data, billing, retail market transactions) accurately reflecting real-world energy sector interactions.
- Validate platform behaviour against energy industry regulatory and market rules and standards.
- Collaborate with QA scrum teams to align test data and scenarios with sprint and release priorities.
- Identify data gaps or quality issues in test scenarios and proactively raise/resolve them.
- Support test evidence capt ures and reporting in line with programme standards.
- Work closely with onshore/offshore counterparts to ensure consistent test coverage across time zones.

Required Skills & Experience

Energy Domain Expertise (Essential)





- Demonstrated experience in the energy/utilities sector retail, market operations, billing, or regulatory compliance.
- Working knowledge of energy market messaging standards and regulatory data flows (e.g., market settlement, metering data, retail transactions).

Ability to translate real-world energy market scenarios into structured test cases and test data.

Quality Engineering Skills

- 5+ years' experience in a QA/Test Engineering role, ideally within large-scale platform migrations or transformation programmes.
- Strong experience in test data preparation and management.
- Familiarity with test management tools (e.g., Jira, Zephyr) and defect lifecycle processes.
- Exposure to automation frameworks (e.g., Playwright,) and Typescript is an advantage but not mandatory for this domain-focused role.
- Exposure to regulatory/compliance testing in the Australian energy market (AEMO, retail market rules). Other
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, comfortable working with distributed onshore/offshore teams.
- Comfortable working with AI-assisted testing tools as they are introduced into the QA workflow.
- Adaptable to quick-paced, evolving platform environments (e.g., ongoing Kraken configuration changes).

Nice to Have

- Experience with service virtualisation or contract testing tools (e.g., MSW, Pact).
