A Senior Manager of Organ Transplant oversees the daily operations, clinical coordination, regulatory compliance, and strategic management of a hospital or health system's organ transplantation department. This role acts as a bridge between clinical surgical teams, administrative leadership, organ procurement organizations (OPOs), and regulatory bodies.
Job Purpose To direct and optimize all phases of the organ transplantation program—including pre-transplant evaluations, donor-recipient coordination, clinical workflows, post-operative care, and strict adherence to statutory organ donation laws.
Key Responsibilities
- Operational Management: Oversee day-to-day operations of the transplant department, managing multidisciplinary teams (transplant coordinators, clinical staff, social workers, and administrative personnel).
- Regulatory Compliance & Accreditation: Maintain strict compliance with organ transplant regulations, legal frameworks (e.g., THOTA in India,
UNOS/CMS in the US), and institutional policies. Prepare for internal and external quality audits.
- Clinical Coordination: Streamline pre-transplant workups, organ allocation workflows, surgical scheduling, and post-transplant follow-up systems.
- Stakeholder & Partner Liaison: Serve as the primary point of contact for regional/national organ allocation registries, organ procurement organizations (OPOs), and referring hospital networks.
- Financial & Budgeting Oversight: Manage the department's budget, billing processes, insurance approvals, and cost-containment strategies for complex medical procedures.
- Quality Improvement: Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to track success rates, patient satisfaction, and post-transplant outcomes.
