Responsibilities
- Complete ownership of PCB Design and Layout for motor controllers
- Develop the complete hardware platform for motor drive and controller
- Create the final schematics and PCB BOM ensuring all component information is accurate
- Design the PCBs to meet the high voltage, current and power requirements by working closely with the Hardware Engineers
- Perform Footprint design, layout planning, placement and routing of high-voltage, high-current PCBs
- Working with Mechanical engineering and motor designer, finalize the dimensions, enclosures, connectors and other electromechanical & thermal requirements
- Ensure that the design meets the electrical, thermal, mechanical and safety requirements
- Perform relevant quality and design verification checks on the completed PCB design
- Prepare the PCB release documentation such as Gerbers Fabrication and Assembly filesets.
- Create and maintain documentation and design collaterals including system architecture, high-level design, low-level design and physical design
- Release the design for manufacturing; oversee and manage the PCB manufacturing
- Assemble the prototypes using hand assembly; oversee PCBA assembly for high volume runs
- Perform section-wise testing and board bring-up activities on the hardware
- Debug and diagnose the hardware and firmware on the controller
- Integrate with the motor and perform various functional, performance and reliability tests as per requirements
Skills and Experience:
- 5+ years of experience in Hardware and PCB Design
- In-depth knowledge of Schematics capture, PCB design and product design concepts
- Should be able to independently complete PCB design from basic concept to final board design and Gerber output
- In-depth hands-on expertise on PCB Design tools such as Altium, Orcad/Allegro, Eagle, KiCAD etc. (at least two of the above-mentioned)
- Hands-on experience on Altium is highly preferred
- Hands-on experience with designing PCBs for various applications including Power Electronics, Microcontroller based PCBs and analog/digital Mixed signal PCBs
- Good working knowledge of PCB design concepts such as floorplanning, component placement, power and ground plane design, length matching, impedance matching, differential routing etc.
- Experience in designing for High-voltage (up to 2kV) and High-current (upto 1000A) DC and AC PCBs
- Detailed knowledge and experience on Power PCB design concepts such as Track width, clearance, creepage, thermal pads and vias, thermal relief, PCB thickness, insulation etc.
- Experience working on Power PCB’s for Inverters, Motor controllers, high wattage Power supply etc.
- Experience in designing mixed signal PCB containing high-power, High-frequency digital and sensitive analog signals with proper ground and signal isolation
- Knowledge and understanding of PCB design and quality standards such as IPC, ISO, UL and RoHS Standards
- Through knowledge and experience in performing quality and design verification checks such as ERC, DRC, DFM, DFT etc. before releasing PCB for manufacturing
- Knowledge of industry best practices in preparing PCB design release for Fabrication and assembly.
- Knowledge and experience in integrating PCB design with system design using mCAD tools - importing DXF to ensure alignment, exporting 3D model of the PCBA
- Experience in testing motor controllers using high-voltage power supplies, electronic loads, dynamometers etc. is highly preferred
- Experience in supervising PCB manufacturing, component procurement and hands-on experience on PCB Assembly is highly desirable
- Experience in the automotive or power electronics domain is preferable
Background:
- Diploma/BE/ME- EE, ECE with 5+ years of relevant industry experience
