Role Description The Senior Backend Engineer will design, implement, and maintain scalable backend services that power the Superfan.ng learning platform.

Responsibilities include architecting APIs, optimizing databases, integrating third-party services, and ensuring application performance, reliability, and security. The role involves collaborating with product, design, and frontend engineering to translate learning and gamification requirements into robust technical solutions. The engineer will also review code, mentor other developers, and contribute to technical standards and best practices.

This is a full-time, remote role, requiring proactive communication,



ownership of deliverables, and comfort working across time zones.

Qualifications

- Strong skills in Back-End Web Development and Software Development, with experience building and scaling production systems.
- Proficiency in Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) and general Programming concepts, including clean code, testing, and debugging.
- Ability to collaborate with Front-End Development teams to design and implement well-structured APIs and data contracts.
- Experience with modern backend frameworks and languages (e.g., Node.js, Python, Go, or similar), RESTful and/or GraphQL APIs, and database technologies (SQL and NoSQL).
- Knowledge of cloud platforms and DevOps practices (e.g., AWS, GCP, CI/CD pipelines, containerization with Docker or Kubernetes).
- Background in designing secure, high-availability systems, including performance optimization, monitoring, and incident response.
- Excellent communication skills, ability to work effectively in a remote, distributed team, and willingness to mentor and support peers.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience; interest in African languages and culture is a plus.
