Position Overview
We are looking for a hands-on Salesforce Developer to own the design and build of custom functionality on our Salesforce platform. This is a development-first role centered on building — Apex, Lightning Web Components, Flow-based automation, and API integrations — with day-to-day administration of the org handled alongside it.
Two areas define this role. The first is workflow and process automation: translating manual, multi-team business processes into reliable automation on the platform. The second is integration with our internal PHP application, where you will design and maintain the data and event flows that keep Salesforce and that system in sync.
Our direction is for Salesforce to become the system of record, while the PHP application remains core to day-to-day operations and is owned by a dedicated engineer. You will own the Salesforce side of that boundary and work closely with them on contracts, sequencing, and data ownership — deep PHP expertise is welcome but not a requirement.
We work in a payments environment operating under PCI DSS Level 1 compliance, so the work carries real constraints around what data may live in Salesforce, how it moves between systems, and how access is granted and audited.
The right candidate is comfortable deciding whether a requirement is best solved through configuration, Flow, Apex, or an integration — and can defend that choice on maintainability grounds, not just on what is fastest to ship.
Key Responsibilities — Development
Workflow &
- Process Automation (primary focus)
- Design, build, and maintain scalable automation using Salesforce Flow — record-triggered, screen, scheduled, and autolaunched flows — plus subflows, Flow Orchestration, and approval processes.
- Partner with business teams to map existing manual processes, identify automation opportunities, and design end-to-end solutions rather than point fixes.
- Extend declarative automation with invocable Apex and custom Flow actions where Flow alone cannot meet the requirement.
- Audit and rationalize existing automation: consolidate overlapping logic, establish a explicit order of execution,
and migrate any remaining Workflow Rules and Process Builder automation to Flow (Salesforce ended support for both on December 31, 2025).
- Build error handling, fault paths, and monitoring into automation so silent failures surface quickly.
- Document automation logic and maintain a current inventory of what runs when, and why.
Integration with Internal PHP Application
- Design, build, and support bi-directional integrations between Salesforce and our internal PHP application using REST APIs, Apex callouts, and inbound Apex REST services.
- Implement secure, maintainable connectivity using Named Credentials, External Services, OAuth 2.0 (including JWT bearer and client credentials flows), and certificate management — no hardcoded secrets.
- Select and apply the right integration pattern per use case: synchronous callout, Platform Events, Change Data Capture, queueable/batch Apex, Bulk API, or webhook-driven inbound processing.
- Build resilient integrations: idempotency, retry and backoff, dead-letter handling, reconciliation jobs, and alerting on failure.
- Define and document field-level mappings, system-of-record ownership, and conflict-resolution rules between Salesforce and the PHP application.
- Partner with the engineer who owns the PHP application on API contract design, versioning, and change coordination — you own the Salesforce side of the boundary.
- Support the shift toward Salesforce as system of record without disrupting live operations: define per-domain ownership, sequence the transition, and keep the operational path on the PHP application intact while it remains critical.
Platform Development
- Develop custom solutions using Apex, Apex Triggers, Lightning Web Components (LWC), SOQL/SOSL, and asynchronous Apex (Queueable, Batchable, Schedulable, future methods).
- Write Apex unit tests with meaningful assertions and mocked callouts; maintain coverage well above the platform minimum.
- Follow secure coding practices: CRUD/FLS enforcement, user-mode database operations and stripInaccessible, SOQL injection prevention, and governor-limit-aware, bulk-safe design.
- Manage deployments across sandbox, UAT, and production using Git, Salesforce DX/CLI, scratch orgs, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Troubleshoot production issues, perform root-cause analysis, and participate in incident response for Salesforce and its integrations.
- Participate in code review and help set development standards for the org.
Key Responsibilities — Administration
- Manage users, roles, profiles, permission sets and permission set groups, sharing rules, and org-wide defaults, applying least-privilege access.
- Maintain objects, fields, record types, page layouts, Lightning app and record pages, list views, and validation rules.
- Build and maintain reports and dashboards; support data quality, deduplication, and data loads.
- Support release management, sandbox refreshes, seasonal release readiness, and org hygiene (retiring unused fields, automation, and reports).
- Maintain audit trails, field history, and access documentation to support internal and PCI DSS compliance reviews.
- Provide second-line support to internal users and triage incoming requests.
Configure and Support Sales Cloud &
- Service Cloud
These two clouds are our primary footprint.
- Sales Cloud: Leads, Accounts, Contacts, Opportunities, Products, Price Books, Campaigns, and sales process automation.
- Service Cloud: Cases, Queues, assignment and escalation rules, Email-to-Case, Knowledge, Omni-Channel, and Service Console.
Required Skills &
- Experience
- 5 years of hands-on Salesforce experience, including at least 3 years writing production Apex and LWC.
- Demonstrated ownership of complex Salesforce Flow automation — not just simple record updates, but multi-object, multi-step processes with error handling.
- Proven experience building and supporting production API integrations between Salesforce and external systems, including authentication, error handling, and monitoring.
- Strong command of Apex, LWC, JavaScript, SOQL/SOSL, asynchronous Apex, governor limits, and performance tuning.
- Working knowledge of the Salesforce security model: profiles, permission sets, sharing, and field-level security.
- Experience with Git, Salesforce DX/CLI, and CI/CD-based deployment.
- Comfortable debugging across a system boundary: reading API logs and payloads, isolating whether a failure sits on the Salesforce side, and communicating precisely with the engineer who owns the other system.
- Comfortable operating in a regulated environment with change control, audit requirements, and restrictions on sensitive data.
- Strong troubleshooting, written documentation, and stakeholder-communication skills; able to work independently across time zones.
Preferred Qualifications
- Salesforce Platform Developer I certification (required or strongly preferred).
- Salesforce Certified Administrator.
- Platform Developer II or Application Architect-track certifications.
- Experience in payments, fintech, or another PCI DSS or SOC 2 regulated environment.
- Experience with middleware or iPaaS tooling (MuleSoft, Workato, Boomi) and with message queues.
- Sales Cloud or Service Cloud Consultant certification.
- Working knowledge of PHP or another server-side language — helpful for integration debugging, though a dedicated engineer owns the legacy application.
- Exposure to Financial Services Cloud (a smaller part of our footprint).
- Experience with Experience Cloud, Salesforce Connect / External Objects, or Shield Platform Encryption.
- Familiarity with static analysis and code quality tooling for Apex (PMD, Salesforce Code Analyzer).
